I am working on my first level and need some tips. First is there an easy way to create say doors with frames and all to quickly just create the whole thing instead of doing it over and over? How do you control the stair tool, it always seems to go in a direction I don't want them to be created, is this controlable? Is there anyway to import level geometry (brushes not objects) in from some other programs?
I'm sure there will be more so thanks in advanced!

One thing you could do is to multibrush the whole thing (Shift+click on each brush), save it in a file (
Multibrush->Save Group) and then load that file (
Multibrush->Load Group) every time you need it.

You don't; build your stairs manually instead.

None that I'm aware of.

The couple of times I've played with the stair tool, it seemed to work perfectly.

I don't share your opinion about it working perfectly, but, well, since that is your opinion you are probably better suited to answer the original question, so I suggest you do so. My opinion is that if one wants perfect control over the process, the stair tool is not the way to go, but instead building all stairs manually, especially when there are heights involved which cannot be easily divided into individual step heights suitable for AIs (or even Garrett himself).
Edit:
Manual building is also better for learning how to build things in general and for gaining experience.

Do you make your stairs out of fill solid brushes or like i did with varying sized fill air rectangles ? Which do you think is better?

I make mine out of solid cube brushes. Both slatted and non.

when I go with solid brushes sometimes they just disappear, they are there on the map but nothing is showing after I portalize... not sure why, instead i just went with fill airs, stepping them up each step and adjusting it so the tops are all the same.
