Hello All
I've just purchased the game and feel I'm going to really enjoy it. However, I have a question: I'm having a hard time understanding exactly how the augs work. The manual says you can only have so many cannisters(?). Does this mean that you are only allowed so many augs? If someone doesn't mind and has a little extra time, a basic thought/suggestions on how augs work would really help. I would hate to be half way through the game before I "wake up" and realize I started out all wrong. Also, if I upgrade a weapon, will that weapon stay with me throughout the game or does it work like Soldier of Fortune, in that you start each new area out with new weapons? I've just found your great forum and only have lurked it a day or so, so please pardon me if these questions have been asked numerous times in the past.
Thanks in advance for your time.

Okay, here's a brief explanation. JC's body has a limited number of slots to install augs. For instance, you can install one eye aug, but 3 torso augs. There are 18 augs total (as I recall), and JC has only 9 aug slots (3 torso, 1 head, 1 arms, 1 legs, 2 skin, 1 eyes). Each aug canister has two augs inside of it. You can use a medbot to install one of these two possible augs. Note that once an aug is installed, it cannot be removed or replaced, so think about what you might want in the long run rather than just what might help out right that moment.
Example: JC has no augs installed currently. He gets an aggressive defense system/spy drone aug, goes to a med bot, and installs spy drone, filling his sole head slot. He then finds an energy shield/regen aug and installs the regenration, filling one of his three chest slots. Since he has two chest slots left, he could still potentially get energy shield, assuming he can find another Aug cannister containing it.
The other kind of nano-tech resource is Aug upgrades. These don't install new augs, just improve the augs you have. Each augs has four levels of power, starting at one and rising by one each time an aug upgrade is used on it. The benefits of aug upgrades vary, but if you have an aug installed, you can always see what effect upgrading will have by selecting that Augmentation screen of inventory.
I'd go into more detail, but I have to get going. Hope this helped.

And to answer this question, your weapons stick with you throughout the game. Think of your inventory as a Role-Playing Game inventory. You keep something until you physically drop it.

Thanks guys for your time and sharing your expertise. No matter what I have already read, or reading the manual numerous times, it didn't explain it to me, as good as you guys did.

Can you get Regen and Energy Shield?
I thought that you were limited to one or the other, as there aren't 3 chest slots, but three different types of slot in the chest area.

And Deus Ex has a real bow upgrade! (well, crossbow anyway).
