I recently started playing Thief at 1600x900 resolution (the resolution of my monitor, and the highest it will go) and it looks infinitely better. I understand NewDark makes the menus and actual game res the same, avoiding that annoying switching when you hit pause or viewed a scroll in the original game. But the menus on 1600x900 do not fit my screen (there are black borders on either side), and the game itself does. Both the menus and game fit my screen when I used 1280x960, but that looks significantly worse than 1600x900. I assume it is keeping the aspect ratio of the menus, as they were not originally the same res as it was in-game. But is there a way to stretch the menus, so they fit my screen properly at the 1600x900 res? Any feedback is appreciated.

You're not going to like the feedback you're about to get. And you'll deserve every word of it.

Why would I deserve negative feedback? I was merely asking a question out of curiosity.

That's his way of saying, no, there is no way to stretch the menus. They're still hardcoded at 640x480 and so if your resolution is widescreen, you get black bars on the sides.

Well, more like it was my way of saying that people with no respect for proper aspect ratio are just the worst. "But I don't like black bars!" Wah wah wah.

Thank you for the explanation. I just asked because I was curious, I knew if it was possible it would distort my game. I just had another Thief fan ask me, and I didn't know. I will get along with my game perfectly fine the way it is.

I had to open the game to make sure I have black bars, too :D Never noticed them.
1920x1080 here.

I never said it was.
