Just updated my aging DromEd/Dedex installation with the newdark update and have found that it is not the same as the old buggy pal, for instance from a new start, I portalize and...nothing happens even with the solid + selection activated.
There is no textures,

no object hierarchy
Yes there is I have just spotted it, no light bright and no load gamsys buttons of old...when I try to even think about adding a texture I get an "add family" button with a string arg box...
I have no idea what this is all about and am in need of a little kick up the backside please.:cheeky:
I have discovered that officially I cannot make a simple room.

After reading the modders notes, I decided to stick with the dromed tool kit 1.00. The New Dark Menus take some getting used to. Quite different than what we were all used to.
Use your view>toggle light. In New Dark v.1.21 once you portalize the 16x16x16 cube the light bright should come on to light the cube automatically. (Dromed tool kit menu)
To add a family, use your command box:click once in it to start your cursor, add_family core_1 then press enter.
Once you have painted the textures you want, use compress_family all. To bring up the pallet, press f-7
Your menus are little different than mine, but I am using the Tool kit 1.00. The tool kit menu is easy to use.
You can still add the tool kit, and there is a mention of it in the modder notes. You can keep your Dedx01.gam, and all of the fam, objs, mesh that come with it. I think back basement.mis is all you need to get started in dromed using Dedx01.gam
Dromed tool kit here:(

Thanks for the info...I still cannot create a room...I have jorge, I have brush, I have fill air selected, I portalize and there is no change to the brush in the 3d window.
I also cannot load the dedex.gam, there is only dark.gam loaded and there is no load gamesys in the file box.
Is my DromEd not working properly.
I unzipped all the zips in the newdark folder to my DromEd folder..have I done it wrong.
It doesn't matter what has happened because I am a sneaky pile of rubbish, I have a hard copy of the working dedex programme burned onto a backup disk:cheeky::cheeky:

Try loading basement.mis that originally came with Dedx01.gam This is your start using the New Dark menu. See if you can do something with that. What I have done is start with that little room they provide and just build from there. The Dedx01.gam object hierarchy should be intack that way.
Edit:You can also create another copy/paste Thief directory that is separate from you game playing directory.
There are instructions here somewhere. I have a separate Dedx01.gam directory, that I named T2.
Before I changed over to New Dark, I already had the Dromed Tool Kit 1.00 installed, and just copied the new_dark.zip and the contrib.zip, and the editor.zip
You can if you wish, remove the New Dark if you have to, to install the Dromed Tool Kit, then re-install it.
There is a choice between New Dark menus and keeping the Tool kit menu.

Hehehe..I installed the toolkit and can now create a room...but newdark has been uninstalled in the process...I shall now reinstall it again and see what happens.
Ravenhook on 24/7/2013 at 14:47
Yup, I have newdark back and can load the texture tree but I have to scroll through the textures in the little box underneath the face box...where there was a tree after I had the toolkit installed, that has now gone and I have to use the little texture box again...the good news is that I can make a room.
I suppose it's more akin to the T3 editor.

Everything was going fine and now I have lost the 3d view, it looks the same as the 2d windows, just a lot of textureless lines...please tell me what I am doing wrong.:(
The Watcher on 25/7/2013 at 13:57
That can happen if:
* the camera is in solid, either because you've placed it there, or there is no worldrep for that area. If the camera is in an area you think should be visible in the 3D view, portalise or optimise, and the 3D view should show the solid world again.
* you accidentally changed the 3D from "Solid world" (or "Solid + selection") to "Wireframe". Right mouse button on the 3D view and select "Solid + selection" from the menu.
Ravenhook on 25/7/2013 at 14:51
Yeah I got really confused with pressing everything in sight in the 3d window trying to get the solid+selection back and ended up starting again...I had started by moving away from point zero by setting xyz at 500 each and starting my build there as you had to do with the old dromed and I found that x and z co-ordinates had a - before their position...I let the new build alone and started it where it the editor starts and all seems ok...alt-g doesn't seem to be working though and to exit the test play I have to esc and quit...funny that.
Ravenhook on 25/7/2013 at 15:58
Alt-G enters game mode but it does not exit back to the editor...any ideas please.
