What censorship do you have in the NZ version? Is the NZ ratings board as restrictive as Australia?
Because NMH is style over substance, and removing the ludicrous amounts of gore seems like it would undermine the experience somewhat.

NMH is bloodless in PAL territories and Japan, there's something along the lines of black vapour rather than gushes of blood. Suda51 approves of both versions, IIRC, hence why I put censored in quotes for my last post.
NZ have a R18 rating for games, so we normally aren't affected by Australian decisions, only in rare circumstances where a lazy distributor might give us Australian stock (but after the debacle over GTA4, most local distributors AFAIk normally try to source stock from the Europe when/if a game is censored by the Oz OFLC. Eg in the case of L4D2 and Silent Hill: Homecoming).
The only games ever banned in NZ AFAIK were Manhunt 1+2 and Postal 2.

Honestly I'd rather have government ratings bodies rather than industry regulated. Eg with the BBFC at least their agendas and regimes are public and not cloaked in back room politics like you have with the MPAA.
EDIT:
How well either or works depends on the country and culture I suppose. I'd imagine that in the US it would be corrupt regardless of the system.

Enjoy playing L4D2 in Australia, or Dead Rising in Germany.

Or anything in Germany for that matter.

Unless, like FarCry and Gothic, they get developed IN Germany. Then, they get knob-slobbed by the goverment.
