The difference between Rage and MW2, is that the multiplayer component is likely an afterthought in Id's game. CoD4 was one of the most popular online FPSes on PC, the MP component was built from the ground up for competitive play.

I can't imagine Id releasing a game and not giving a shit about the multiplayer component. I kinda wish they would, because then maybe they could create a decent singleplayer experience (especially since Ravensoft hasn't in a good decade).
CoD4 is a day one purchase for me for the campaign. If I wanted fucking multiplayer, I'd play TF2. Oh wait, no, that game has sucked since the medic update. Well, I'd find something. Maybe iRacing or IL-2 or something. It sure as fuck wouldn't be a call of duty game. As far as I'm concerned, they basically exist solely for the purposes of being heavily scripted, linear, cinematic shooters.

Dunno if you chaps have mentioned it yet but Rage is apparently also not gonna ship with Dedicated Server support.
Seriously? ID? The mother of dedicated server fps gaming/modding?
IS THE END NIGH?

Personally I'm amazed RAGE is being developed in the first place. It was always DNF to me.
Jason Moyer on 7/11/2009 at 09:37
2 years qualifies as DNF status now?

Rage's MP gimmick will probably be Deathmatch with sand buggies? Wow fun, it's still boring old DM. There will probably also be a pure racing MP mode, why would I choose to play that over an actual racing game?
The SP campaign is the focus of the project, just like it was with Doom 3, but at least they actually seem to be putting far more effort into it this time.

So you support IW in its efforts in making the PC game trends go backwards (using laggy P2P hosting and lowering the player count. Listen servers were established as being crap back in the Quake 1 days - hence Quakeworld.) and taking control of the game away the community (they want to eliminate competition posed by mods so that they can shove premium MP map packs down people's throats. These divide the community, greatly limiting the pool of players/number of joinable MP sessions for those who don't purchase the content.)?
Also if the price hike on the PC version catches on, other publishers might follow suit. It's uncalled for, there are no royalties on PC software, it's motivated by nothing but pure greed.
I like CoD primarily for its scripted, cinematic SP campaign too, but I'm not buying the game for the greater good of the community.
BTW, the United States isn't the centre of the universe.

And P2P still sucks now if you don't live in one of the "major markets" (mainly US and Europe). Being forced to play 300 ping games with Yanks, rather than Australians and Kiwis made me loathe the console versions of CoD4+WaW.
CoD4 for consoles favoured North American connections, so when a Yank joined a match made up of Kiwis and Aussies, he'd automatically be assigned host whilst the rest of us get stuck in lag city
What's more the console versions of MW2 won't have local match filtering, which WaW did. So there's an even greater chance of being stuck in 300ms games with Americans.

No, I just don't really give a shit one way or the other. I was never going to play it online regardless.
If I wanted to make a political statement I'd run for office or do something that actual matters, rather than joining some panicky bullshit boycotting/petition signing crusade.
Koki on 7/11/2009 at 13:31
Yeah, as it's been proved time and time again voting with your wallet is worthless.
Jason Moyer on 7/11/2009 at 16:38
The next I'm at the store and buy apples instead of oranges I'll have to remember I'm voting with my wallet instead of simply using my limited spending power on things I need/want rather than things I don't need/want. I'll also have to jump online and start a petition aimed at farmers who grow oranges instead of apples even though I've made it clear that I prefer apples to oranges. Maybe if I yell loudly enough they'll plant some apple orchards.
Koki on 7/11/2009 at 17:25
Well, what else expect from TTLG
You're not in "apples vs. oranges" situation, you're in "will I buy these rotten apples at 120% price" situation.
