For fucks sake. See, this is what I hate. Not that people don't like what IW are doing with this one. I don't particularly like it either. But the fact that EVERY SINGLE PERSON has to stand up on their fucking soap box and complain in every public faucet possible. It's impossible to even discuss the game on a forum anymore without it turning into a bucket of rampant drama queens.
Also, I do hope that's the case Koki. If I wanted to play FPS in space I'd buy shattered horizons.

kidmystik completely fails to notice the irony of his post in this obliviousness shocker

Oh I'm aware of the irony. Not going to stop me bitching. The percentage of whiners to whiners about whiners is far too high.

Um, if you look at the original topic of the thread and the additional discussions on the subsequent releases of information (by IW) on how they are going to present (I would argue strip out) the game to the PC Community - think we have some very legitimate reasons to "soapbox".
IW.net and P2P may work - but many of us seriously doubt it will & we'll know pretty much in the first week - as I believe there will be a barrage of complaints on their forums documenting the such.
I would also encourage you to go one page back and look again at Koki's post on the differences between COD4 and MW2 from on online PC perspective and then tell us that MW2's MP will not be affected because of those IW decisions.
Have no doubt the game will be EPIC, sell a ton of copies, and be well done - just as a PC Gamer have to give IW a big finger on these decisions.

At the end of the day, it seems like (apart from latency issues faced by non-US players) the biggest issue is not the lack of dedicated servers per say but the 18 player cap. I just don't get why you would go BACKWARDS like this.

I'm sure the cheaters will give the mp mode the death stab on pc

Hell, I hope they do.

Well the two go hand in hand. There's a reduced player count precisely because listen server hosted games on residential internet connections cannot support anywhere near 32 players, let alone 64.
Cheaters use the listen server hosted matches in the popular games on Xbox Live as their doormat, pretty much. Also VAC might not ban someone until weeks after the fact.

So I guess that's the question, then - WHY is IW moving to this system? In all the hoopla over how wrong this is I've never heard an explanation WHY IW is doing it. I mean, they say "improved play quality" and stuff but obviously that's not the reason. It seems like the lack of community that mods and clan servers make , along with the slashed player count, would HURT their bottom line, not help it.

It's an anti-piracy measure, for one thing. Not that that's going to stop pirates from easily cracking the single-player game. Pirates wanting to go multiplayer will have to jump through a whole set of hoops to get a game going even if/after it's cracked.
