But that's kind of always been the case- multiplayer has always been difficult to play on warezed games. So this "anti-piracy" measure only ends up hurting legitimate players. On top of that there's also the fact that while cheaters may get VAC-banned after a couple of weeks, they're still using that two weeks to fuck with legitimate players who have no recourse- no server-side mods means admins can't kick cheaters on the spot.

So I guess that's the question, then - WHY is IW moving to this system? In all the hoopla over how wrong this is I've never heard an explanation WHY IW is doing it. I mean, they say "improved play quality" and stuff but obviously that's not the reason. It seems like the lack of community that mods and clan servers make , along with the slashed player count, would HURT their bottom line, not help it.
It allows them to sell you three map packs for ten dollars, and without the ability to choose servers that don't run them, or just download user made maps, you will have to buy the maps.

Of course, the extra $10 they're charging will cover any losses from cutting these features or from their poor PR with their core fanbase.
This will then pave way for future development on the PC to be as easy as it is on the console. Without the necessity of several PC-centric features that the community is used to, development will be far more cost-effective. This lack of extra features, coupled with more streamlined (easier to implement) systems, and premium DLC will allow them to treat the PC far more like the console.
It sucks cock but it's probably going to work pretty well.

*Sigh* Ping is represented by cellphone battery bars now, rather than an actual number count.

Well damn
Don't fuck with PC Gamers or you'll totally get a low user score on a shitty ranking site no one cares about.

I dunno that developers really care about metacritic user scores, as long as the review scores are high and it sells a fuckton. It would be nice if they did, since there are a ton of games on there with a large disparity between the pro/user review scores, although there seems to be an overly disproportionate amount of axe-grinding on there too (like all of the 0 scores for Out Of The Park 2007, despite the game being reviewed fairly and being developed by a community-centric company).

They may be more likely to pay attention to consistent 0-stars reviews on Amazon.
