No, not another "will there be thief4" thread, but... - by Flux

Five years ago streamlining was the keyword.

I did say "try". :thumb: That doesn't mean I have faith they will succeed. I'm not, however, the sort to go harsh and negative without knowing a single thing about the game's development. They haven't even assembled the development team yet. :)

Eurogamer, or maybe just Rob Perchese, doesn't frikkin' "get" it, and (
http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=130788) this is why I want the assassin-style to be made very difficult:
"Thief is a stealth-action title set in a gritty world that's a cross between the late middle ages and Victorian eras.
It sees players creeping around and killing people by using their environment to cloak their approach and dump bodies down sewer hatches."

SWEET! Ive got the perfect track! I dedicate it to our anatomically ambiguous friend pictured above:
...
Zwitter
ich bin so verliebt
Zwitter
ich bin in mich verliebt...
Ich bin alleine doch nicht allein
ich kann mit mir zusammen sein
ich küsse früh mein Spiegelbild
und schlafe abends mit mir ein
wenn die anderen Mädchen suchten
konnt ich mich schon selbst befruchten
so bin ich dann auch nicht verzagt
wenn einer zu mir "Fick dich" sagt
Zwitter
ich bin so verliebt
Zwitter
ich bin in mich verliebt...
EDIT
I guess this is a treasure hunt post. You gots to translate to laugh... if you laugh... you might not.
Read the first few lines and then I was like
I hope that's not a real song... (is it?)
Anyway, on topic:
I would love a sequel to TDS, even though the whole "trilogy" thing and the ending of Deadly Shadows wrapped up the series perfectly. Yes, you can attack me all you want, I still think DS was a good game. Anyway, in my opinion, a free-roaming city would be a great idea for a fourth installment, since it was something I always found missing in the other games. Don't get me wrong, robbing heavily guarded banks and walking around haunted crypts was great, but it would be fun to actually decide yourself if you would like to break into someone else's house and steal their stuff. (Just for fun, you know).
Also, I find it kind of weird that many of you complain about a new installment before even seeing a single video or screenshot of it. The game hasn't even been announced yet!
jtr7 on 7/4/2008 at 18:56
Could you be more specific about these complaints? Which ones?:)
Most complaints are about the past mistakes, and dread they will reappear in the future games. Or are you speaking to a couple of comments here and there? Or is "complaint" the wrong word?
Come to think of it, quite a few of what I would really consider complaints are against posts and posters in this thread.
Anyway, I still think it's odd that if it's Thief that Eidos-Montreal is looking to make, that Eidos considers Thief successful enough. A cult following is not often considered success.

LoL, yeah, it is a real song titled Zwitter. I dont speak German, so Im sure my translated knowledge of the song loses a lot of the nuance I know Rammstein like to infuse their songs with. To be honest, I like it more not understanding...

Yes, I'm very surprised that Thief would be ranked up as a AAA title. If it has been somehow promoted to AAA status, that would be great as far as their time and budget are concerned...but I'm not so sure about player support.
I wouldn't start planning any Thief 4 fan missions just yet folks. After the lack of developer support for the TDS editing tools, I thought we all might have learned to put our energies towards supporting the community when it comes to this kind of thing.
I would be as pleased as everyone else if they released some editing tools, but in the end it's still just another bandage. We'll likely never get the source code for any official Thief game. I think Thief will only ever achieve complete freedom through community ventures like The Open Dark Engine and Dark Mod. I just wish the community would throw its complete weight behind these types of projects.

Either my translator absolutely stinks, or the Zwitter lyrics have not a single thing to do with Thief.:eww:

But in all fairness, you are a bit biased. :p
The fact is that the petition for a Thief 3 editor did come through to a certain extent. We didn't get exactly what we wanted, but the dev companies do appreciate what the fans want. Perhaps if people are vocal early on in development, the game engine would be tailored for release with the game rather than thrown in at the last minute to appease its biggest fans.

That may work for the next time, but we know that wasn't gonna work for TDS, with Jordan and others working quietly off the clock to get T3Ed to us, and after so much time was wasted struggling with faulty codes.
NH, have you guys made a list of ways the community could help? The Dark Engine FM community are a cult unto themselves, very happy to stay with things the way they are, and are insatiable for any new FMs they can get their hands on. And there's this whole instant gratification mindset permeating the active majority of the community members. Some of us aren't even set up to install Doom 3. I can type and click to show my support, but how many of us can do more than that?
