No, not another "will there be thief4" thread, but... - by Flux

Language barrier, in this case. And then the lyrics threw me off. But I get the joke now.:thumb: :eww: :thumb:

OT, again. You derailers, you.
Some of us might take these rumors as a nudge to speed up certain lexical projects charting the Thief Universe. Not that the Mapping Project map in fact corresponds with the original LGS map, but... you know what I mean. Because it would be mighty nice not to encounter unnecessary inconsistencies, were the Thief franchise to be advanced further.
Hm. Actually, now that I contemplate it, I'm somewhat surprised to discover that I'm not opposed to the thought of rewriting the Thief story somewhat in order to make it work as a movie script.

It's those very kinds of ideas that I've been trying to work towards. \o/
I'm currently absolutely burnt out (not the enthusiasm part) so, starting this coming Saturday, I will begin a two-week vacation from the workplace, and hopefully I will recover my faculties for working on the ETU-related projects, and subsequent fanon theorising.

@CD SET
I really didn't mean my Rammstein lyrics to take up this much space. It was just a joke in passing. I didn't notice until now the post about it being removed had it been in English. I read a translation of the lyrics, and they don't translate as being too much, in my mind. However, I already said that I don't speak German and the nuance in German would change it. If its terribly offensive, I will remove it.
No, it wasn't on topic, but how many jokes are? I think my reputation here (as tiny as it is) is far from being one of disrespect or vulgarity. My previous post included. I just wanted to make my intentions clear.
I promise to say nothing else about it, and my next post will be about Thief, once I can take some time to think about it as opposed to Russia-China security cooperation and the SCO... (SIGH I hate essays)
On with the show!

A question relevant to a future Theif 4 game:
Is it possible to create a big and detailed City (off-mission) and deep interesting maps (on-mission) at the same time ?
Time is not an unlimited resource for developers so either they spend it on making an entire city with some missions (TDS style) or on a very long set of missions but with no free wandering between them (TDP and TMA style).
I always remember GTA:SA having a huge map and lots of missions... But then the missions involved were done in the city itself. So they wouldn´t spend more time making mission maps because they already did the city map... (unless you count some special maps like the Liberty City Restaurant and that stupid Helicopter Toy Fight)
My utopian dream would be Eidos managing to pull off a big City (as big as San Andreas) and some 20 missions (plus any house in the City can be robbed - every single one).

Unless they budget for it and make a team with that in mind, I don't think we'll get to see a more accessible City. Obviously they will have to build the mission-specific areas and add stuff in-between, but it
would be cool if there was a couple of people who's primary job was creating filler areas to be explored after the mission designer was mostly done. Sounds tricky, though.
This was inspired a couple pages back. It's Future Thief, since some sci-fi whizz-gadgetry was mentioned, and *ahem* aliens recently:

http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/2329/863fullzn0.pngI did minimum work on the hair, so Garrett has more than he ever did. But consider that it was Matt Groening's bearded head to begin with. And yeah, I threw the "Mr." on for no real reason.

Oh, man!
You realize that now we're going to have to distribute this gem all around the blagosphere and forumtubes?
Beleg, you can take care of the distro at the German Eidos forums, can't you?

:cheeky:
Another zany idea: I wanna be able to pick up dead spiders, hide in the shadows, and throw them at Nobility to make them drop some of their loot. Eeek! The spiders are jumping spiders, anyway. Better than mugging.:tsktsk:
I wanna see rustmites actually eating rust. The unspoken backstory is that they secrete oxidizing saliva which will make more rust for them to eat later. There should be infestations of small ones, and large mommas, and metal plating, grillwork, and pipes corroded through.:p

So you want Brother Walton to bring in a chain of warehouse discount stores to serve The City's increasing sub-urban population? ;)
Heh. I got it. Well, the agriculture and the manufacturing industry have gotten theirs, so why not take a closer look at the profits to be had from the service-providing industries? Maybe THAT's what Deadly Shadows should have been about, come to think of it.;)
And for the speculation: We had a separate forum called the Thief 2 Wishlist when the TTLG forums rented a place at gameforum.com. If an official statement is made about a new Thief title, I'd say we could use a brainstorming forum outside of this thread.
So perhaps we'd better save some of our more specific wishes for such an eventuality.
(Myself, I'd like to be able to toss sporks and other cutlery.)

Well, my serious wishes will remain ready to tell. The goofier stuff comes nearly unbidden half the time. If you'd like a place to coalesce, condense, and organise ideas, then that could be done. Just point the way.
Are you talking about a private forum for a select few to brainstorm to create their own Thief project, to reduce theft of any original intellectual properties we would come up with? There are a number of such fora for FMs, right now, so there are people to ask about setting a place up.
