No, not another "will there be thief4" thread, but... - by Flux

No, something more like TTLG Forums > Thief Series > Thief 4 Wishlist was what I had in mind, actually. And such a forum is likely to be created the same day an Eidos confirmation is released. Until then, let's concentrate on the greater concepts in this thread, because it's what any Thief devs - if such creatures truly exist in this day and age - visiting TTLG will be likely to read first.
Has the possibility of Thief for Wii been discussed around here, for instance?
How long do you think the development of a new Thief title should take? Remember that it's likely to become more expensive the more manhours spent on it.
I believe the one design concept one must have in mind at all time is immersion. Anyone disagreeing?

Man, all they have to do is use the search function (:p), or a popular search engine, and look up "Thief 4", in quotes. And we can always link to choice posts or threads.
How has archery been implemented on the Wii already, and climbing, and changing out weapons, etc? Is it decent? Wii lockpicking, hmmm....
TDP took 30 months and they had less of an idea of what they were creating. The new game wouldn't need so much pre-production, unless key employees weren't that familiar or warm to Thief, and they had to create too much from scratch, like modifying the engine to force it into Keeper training. Anybody who might be on the team who gets Thief can hit the ground running. Hopefully there would be taffers who already had ideas ready to go before clocking in that first day. I'm purposely ignoring all the other employees who aren't gonna get it until some time into it, maybe.
I sincerely hope they spend more time making a basic Thief, building up the simpler game and software tools, to just recreate the elements of the original gameplay, and THEN bring it into the next decade. We'd have to get it before the world ends in 2012, which I think is doable.:p Less show-off stuff and less new power-ups, but more freedom, more Cityscape, more types of AI, new storyline with the same basic Factions, more vertical movement, more details in the textures, less crowding in the streets that late at night, more AI indoors where the real loot should be most of the time. More time making Thief familiar and with respect to the beloved recipe, than packing in all the new gimmicky stuff. I hope they don't make Thief a showcase for the latest technology a priority. And like I said, I hope they make it to exploit the PC first, and have another team adapt it to the new consoles coming out in 2010 and 11.
Immersion and atmosphere together to create a real sense of what the player is involved with. Those two are the foundation of the tension and suspense when the AI are near.

Beleg, you can take care of the distro at the German Eidos forums, can't you?
Done. In return, could someone please fetch those old TDS caricatures for me? I searched for them multiple times but I fear one has to know what to look for exactly.

I mentioned how fun you could have "blackjacking" taffers with a Wii...
And the lockpicking idea mentioned above sounds fun too.
Other Wii things:
- Swinging a flare around
- Swinging an unconstious body on the floor
- Swinging on the rope-arrow like a Tarzan to jump into far ledges

So many of you are worrying, but I'm quite sure, if Thief 4 receives only moderate reviews, all of you will still buy it. And really enjoy it. Then complain about it's shortcomings on the forum, just to feel you are staying loyal to the original games.
Don't worry! If it's bad, then just forget about it and go back to playing TDP and TMA. It won't detract from anything. If it's good, be happy that at least one developer out there understands what we want, and play it. Simple.

I have a wii and I love it, it's great fun. But Thief on a wii, and blackjacking with the wiimote, etc...seems way too gimmicky to me. That's no really the kind of immersion I'm personally looking for with Thief.
Rock on, page 10'd.

I should point out again that it's very easy for a user to change the number of posts per page, and though most people keep it to default, comments concerning the page number will be lost to a good portion of our readers.
Just saying.

I really didn't mean my Rammstein lyrics to take up this much space. It was just a joke in passing. I didn't notice until now the post about it being removed had it been in English. I read a translation of the lyrics, and they don't translate as being too much, in my mind. However, I already said that I don't speak German and the nuance in German would change it. If its terribly offensive, I will remove it.
No, it wasn't on topic, but how many jokes are? I think my reputation here (as tiny as it is) is far from being one of disrespect or vulgarity. My previous post included. I just wanted to make my intentions clear.
I promise to say nothing else about it, and my next post will be about Thief, once I can take some time to think about it as opposed to Russia-China security cooperation and the SCO... (SIGH I hate essays)
On with the show!
Sorry everyone, I had to answer to this.
Anyway, I just wanted to say that I may have exagerrated a little when I said that it would probably get deleted. It is a little bizarre (the lyrics I mean) but there's only one curse word in there so I wouldn't worry. Also note that I'm from Sweden and has only learned German for a few years at school, so I may very well have misinterpreted a line or two.
On the topic of Thief 4, something I would love to see (I think this has been mentioned before?) is a really sophisticated lock-picking system. Seriously. Picking locks was one of the finest moments of Thief 3 in my opinion.

True.
Lockpicking at TDS was good.
But no HUD.

Body awareness. In TDS I found myself getting annoyed, once in awhile, at not being able to see what I was trying to look at, because my legs and feet obscured the view. In real life I can just move my limbs without moving the position of my head, or having to walk away and approach from a different angle. Probably can't be fixed, anyway. Immersion breaker.
Wall-climbing. While hanging on a wall, it was disappointing and irritating that I couldn't look behind me. I could only turn 90°. In real life, I can turn my head closer to 95° (small but significant), and turn my eyeballs in their sockets to look even further to the side, and unless the climbing gloves required my elbows to be stuck to the wall, I could additionally straighten one arm out to twist my torso to see straight back. A sense of this could be created. I was used to hanging from a rope arrow where I could get a view of the surrounding area just by spinning along the axis of the rope. Hanging on a building wasn't as rewarding as it could be. Immersion breaker.
