No, not another "will there be thief4" thread, but... - by Flux

I believe TDS suffers from the all the wasted time from the botched software, and trying to fix it, and having to come up with work-arounds and replacement ideas, and redesigning. I don't blame the devs for what they had to do under those circumstances, and what they couldn't do. I feel sorry for the guy who delivered the botched software. What's his untold story? I will reitierate that we don't want to see that happen again.
And LGS was not like any other company, but yes, they had to have a business plan and budget, producers, publishers, and all the marketing science, but the devs had more creative freedom and the departments could share ideas and technology.
True, and probably LGS did better regression testing of there Dark Engine then Ion did with TDS. Result, more headaches for users.

Hahaha! I really just want to make sure you didn't come in here to provoke people, vurt. Since you are posting in here, and making statements as you are, I'd like to know why you are in this thread, if it's not to make digs at people who make digs at a game you like?
Let me just say i was prepered for the.. discussion ;)
As i said earlier i just like the game and i think its underrated, sometimes for _really_ idiotic reasons - like "the barrel textures are awful!" and whatnot. Sometimes i really enjoy argumenting with people here because they're so dedicated (like myself) :cheeky:

Okay, just so we know where the other is coming from. As was stated earlier in the thread, if the devs actually read this thread for our opinion, then they should have a real strong idea of what WORKED as well as what didn't. Nevermind that the publisher will use a complex scientific method to disagree with whomever they want...heh heh heh. If you say you are prepared for what you are trying to accomplish, and few are stating they agree with you, then I have to question your agenda. Since you are deflecting and providing only vague emotional content, I will stop trying to find understanding, and just chalk it up as provocation.
I'm hoping to see something in these discussions, eventually, that has eye-opening depth, but that's also a pipe dream. Not impossible but certainly rare. If we could get beyond punishing people for disagreeing, and just try to lay out the reasons for our stance, then we might make a difference. Or we could just spout off as usual for selfish instant gratification!:p
No more "Well I liked it... So there! ...Idiot." :nono:

And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space,

At least I think you were referencing The Meaning Of Life...

Yes, TDS had problems... Mainly technical ones.
But I forgive them because I know they had development problems and some bad decisions that I´m sure they won´t repeat in Thief4 (blue footprints, no swimming, no rope arrow).
And I really enjoyed TDS past these problems.
Heck, THE CRADLE is the most intense experience I had in gaming!
And the Dagger vs Sword topic:
I´m a daggerite. It fits the theme. It makes combat more tense since they have long blades and you have a short one. And it makes backstabs. Anyone who ever played a Thief in D&D loves backstabs. Ok, not very stealthy but if you´re in a mood for blood...

Which illustrates many of my points perfectly and without the annoying delivery.:thumb:
Garrett had a dagger in the earlier games, too, but we only saw them in the cutscenes/briefings--usually when he was answering the door.

Maybe he used it for slicing bread....
They gave him a sword. Garrett had a sword both in TDP/Gold and TMA. I think that there is a reason for that. Taking away the sword in TDS was to deprive him of one of his abilities and impoverish the game.
I really hope that if there will be a Thief 4 they will take it in account.

Sure. Those rolley-eyes aren't for me, are they? I mean, you can roll your eyes at the dagger and I'll agree.
Actually, he had his dagger at a guy's throat, but I also thought he could've just used a kitchen knife. I don't have a problem with the sword, if you're thinking I do.:sly:
The sword is canon and part of two games. Garrett was trained by the Keepers to use the sword. He had it ready when Viki made her TMA intro. A little TDS in-game textual explanation for the change would've been nice. Or a mention in a cutscene. Carpal tunnel?
Since he did have a dagger, I kinda wish it was a Keeper knife, like the one used to cut the Viki-Vines, but I could understand if Garrett wanted one less reminder of the Keepers in his daily life.

Sorry, I didn't meant to be offensive, just a little ironical. :)
I like the sword, its absence it's one if the reason because I disliked TDS so much. Just one of the reasons. :)
