No, not another "will there be thief4" thread, but... - by Flux

I like tafferites. Especially tafferette tafferites. What I don't like is a culture of anger aimed at a beloved franchise being misinterpreted* by tafferites developers.
This is TTLG, not NMA. Look at what happened with the System Shock fans and Bioshock. Imagine that happening to the Thief crowd. Ugly days.
buggered, frakked, fouled, screwed over, i.e. fucked up.

It's going to be so weird. The games will be so different that the TDP/Gold crowd won't have much in common with the T4 crowd, yet there will be only one ThiefGen for both. The vets will have to control themselves, and you can also bet that won't happen. All it takes is one "You don't know what you're missing! Forget that T4 crap and buy TDP! That's Thief!" per thread to muck it up. Thankfully, it'll probably be so different, it'll be easy to ignore the past and accept the present--for some of us.

Anyway, I feel it would be prudent for us to appoint a spy to the French language Thief/Eidos forums. I feel that's where the Eidos Montreal devs might choose to lurk first. Who's up to it?

Btw, when I noticed that Thief4.com was still available - naturally I stole it! :ebil:
So, maybe we can do something useful with it. How about create a list of demands for Eidos Montreal? :cheeky:

The fact that they didn't bother to register it doesn't give me much faith. ;)
However, I am willing to bet that the title will not contain a "4" in it anyway. It will be called Deadly Shadows 2. ;)

The Thief intellectual property is owned by Eidos, not by Ubisoft. The rumor here is about Eidos Montreal -- not Ubisoft -- developing Thief IV. :thumb:
LoL Given my recent history here, I probably should have seen that mistake myself. I guess Ive never heard of Eidos Montreal... I just automatically think UBI when I hear the specific mention of a Montreal studio.
And ARGH! Im really REALLY not liking where this is headed. The original Thief concept was pure gold. Why are people who are paid to create so blind to the amazing creativity produced by others? Does everyone think they need to put their mark on something? The relative failure of Thief DS was not for a LACK of changes....

Thief: The Ion Era.
Thief: Revenge of the Hammer.
I'd go on, but with the number of fan missions over the years, there's probably a damn high chance Eidos would use an identical title to one just by sheer universal randomness.

Well this doesn't seem to be 100% concrete yet but if and when it is we shouldn't be so down on the idea.
Yes, we've had the disappointments of DX2, BioShock and TDS but you always need to have faith. The derision that DX2 and TDS received is well known by the devs - perhaps they will take note. And with the technological leaps since TDS there is scope for something amazing.

BioShock? Disappointment? Who was disappointed by BioShock? It holds the 13th and 14th spots on the GR All-Time table, and it was far better than anything else released on 360 for a long time. I presume you're talking about the Activation/protection malarkey, no?
