No, not another "will there be thief4" thread, but... - by Flux

Chade: I was referring to missions like Gambit has pointed out, which also includes
Precious Cargo to
Kidnap, and
Return to the Haunted Cathedral to
Escape. So yeah, the OMs forced the player to carry over equipment. No, not everytime.
Ok, sorry!

It would be an irony of epic proportions if the core fandom of one of the most creative FPP games of the last ten years refused to accept any creativity on part of (potential) authors of the next installment.
I think this is very well put. :)

Maybe we should compare our hope for Thief sequels with... Nintendo best franchises. Mario, Zelda, Samus...
Nintendo philosophy is to always respect the past but embrace creativity and innovation.
All Mario, Zelda and Samus games keep improving, keep inovating, but they never lose their roots, their feelings.
A sequel has to respect it´s past and roots, but it also has to offer something else or it will be just trying to become a copy.
Better graphics, AI, light/shadow system, and physics are already expected with the advance of modern engines.
There´s also hope for a mod-friendly game, creating more fans to the franchise, more fans meaning more mods and FMs.
The rest is hope for a good single player story. Hope for good design choices when dealing with readables, HUB, atmosphere, etc.
And after all that there´s also room for that "Nintendo innovation". Some new tools ? New moves ? A real time City ? An inside economy ?
Anything is game as long as it feel natural, creative, and stay true to the roots.

Phide: Now we're talkin'! And yeah, I know it's not strictly personal, and you are well-meaning--likewise with me. We gotta speak it out for the observers. My last point on this is that I'd rather hear comments along the lines you just listed, rather than comments that are just mean to people--especially from taffers that should taffin' know better. If a person's going to take the time to scan a thread, and post at all, their post should have meaning, and accessible relevance, rather than a display of ignorance and cheap shots. Like many pessimists, I believe my views are rooted in reality, based on repeated experience and observation, and that sometimes optimism is just as dangerous when it seems uninformed. I also find too many optimists are pretty negative towards people, while cherishing an incorporeal idea with a devotion I cannot understand.
Chade: No worries! I am interested in those quotes, if you could--by some miracle--narrow it down. I still think I'm fairly correct (biased perhaps), and think it's cool that the use or hording of equipment works both ways. Another bit of all-inclusive gaming philosophies. I do remember either a gaming tip in a manual, or maybe a post, that said to go ahead and spend all the money, get what you can, but I don't think that's what you're thinking of. And I agree with that Zillameth quote, too. I find it bizarre that I get accused of being against creativity in the Thief Universe. I get accused of going too far and getting scary, too, but that's the accusers' problem.:laff:

To much to read and i don't have alot of time anymore, so i'll ask it instead
Was the rumor true or was/is it just another joke?
And who currently posseses the rights? Its still Eidos right?
jtr7 on 23/4/2008 at 17:45
No one knows anything, yet. The links on the first two pages will catch you up on everything we
know--except that (
http://www.eidosmontreal.com/) Eidos Montreal 's official site has removed the news bit about making another game for a successful franchise that begins with the letter "T".
Shadak on 23/4/2008 at 19:00
HA! They must have JUST removed it within the past couple hours, because I went there earlier today it was still there. I see now that it's gone.
Renault on 23/4/2008 at 21:24
Don't get too excited, it's a well-known fact that Eidos has the rights to Thief, they've had it since just after LGS closed down. That doesn't translate to Thief4 by any means.

Yes, and it's only two steps ahead of "Pony Friends". :tsktsk:
