No, not another "will there be thief4" thread, but... - by Flux

GMD: Except the trolls and everyone who tells me I'm saying something I'm not. I just use too many words...or not enough. But point taken.:thumb:
Sorry to hear that, GMD (#11). What am I reasonably expected to do when faced with libelous accusations, eh? How should I answer questions aimed at me and my intentions, especially when I've already answered the question four times on two pages of the same thread? Gimme a break. No really. Gimme a frikkin' break. There's a buttload of reasons for my responses, and ignoring the warnings results in this, which you claim you don't want, yet encourage. Jumping on the Betrayer's bandwagon has only added to the splintering.
Neb: Well, if the devs have the Book of Ash, then bring as many flashbombs as you can carry, or enough holy water flasks to sprinkle over the entire room, in case the zombies materialise behind you. :)

Hmm.... :)
I swear I remember you saying recently that you do this on purpose to provoke a response... Anywho, unless we start rehashing Dark Project soon, :ebil: , that's about as deep as I can go.

Thanks for transporting me back to 2004 with that interview. An interview with someone who isn't employed by Eidos.

I've recently done a few searches on this whole 'The title begins with 't'' article and it appears nothing more has been written on the subject (rumor?). I almost rather hope that Eidos doesn't try to do a T4, considering the hash-job they did not only on TDS, but on the last couple of TRs as well.
I say let Bethesda give it a try instead.
:p

Well, to be fair, Ion Storm did the hash-job on TDS...not Eidos, and this is a Montreal Studio...they're branded as an Eidos company...but that doesn't mean the studio won't prove to be talented.

One thing we have to realize is that even if this is an unofficial announcement of Thief 4 by Eidos Montreal, Thief 4 won't be coming out for a long, long time. Here is my timeline of which I have based upon my "gaming logic".
Deus Ex 3 is currently well in hard development for Eidos Montreal. Simultaneously, Eidos has been developing the game engine for the game of which will most likely also be used for Thief 4. From the average times it takes for game companies to do all of this, I would say that the earliest date Deus Ex 3 would come out at would be late 2009, if not early 2010.
Next, assuming Eidos goes into immediate production for Thief 4, it’s going to take at least two good years for a fully-developed Thief 4 to be released. The average time for a game company to release a subsequent game after they released one before with an already developed game engine is about two years. It took Thief II to come out two years after The Dark Project.
So, my final guess is that a Thief 4 would not be coming out any time before 2012. That’s a good four years from now, and this is the earliest time I believe it would be released. Four years is roughly a good "era" in PC gaming. The technology powering Thief 4 would be well more advanced then say for example, Crysis which is currently at the cutting-edge.

I thought Eidos Montreal was aiming for two year development cycles for their games. If I recall, their plan on that you tube video was to add their second development team this year...which could mean they have already started T4...and their 3rd team in 2009....giving them 300 employees. A team of 80 to 100 people...that's pretty big....probably much larger than Ion Storm had.
Deux EX and Thief 4 will likely share the same engine again, so that cuts down on having to completely reinvent the wheel. As long as they're a really tight team, they could probably put T4 out within 2 or 2 1/2 years.

I'm aware, but I personally don't think they are going to hold up to their projected development scheme, at least not if Thief 4 is going to be of a major quality accomplishment.
P.S = How is the Dark Mod coming? Making some beautiful tunes?
