So it´s Crystal with some upgrades.
And Half-Life 2 is Quake 1 with some upgrades, since Source is an evolution of the HL1 "Gold Source" which has Quake code at it's foundations.

I just want to know what people thought about Crystal based games. I´m sure a future Deus Ex 3 will be more advanced than these games but I just want to have a general feeling of the crude Crystal Engine version to have a notion of it´s potential.

Generally, the best thing about Crystal Dynamics' engines is that they're usually optimised great. They might not be cutting-edge, but they do the job and don't demand NASA computers to run. I remember how amazed I was by how well Legacy of Kain: Defiance looked and ran on my old system.
The only exception to this rule is Snowblind. The engine was quite impressive for it's time, making use of newish techniques such as depth of field etc., but it was horrendously buggy - I still can't run the game normally despite trying it several times on different hardware and drivers.

The funny thing is that most people saying things like these just don't want it to be true and/or would dislike a disagreement with their own opinion. A few weeks ago I had an extensive discussion with some history revisionist whose only reaction to some Wikipedia fact I had found was:
"I won't say anything now about a page everyone can meddle with."

Well, maybe I should be more clear: never trust wiki on the subject of games.

Well, wikipedia has gotten really good about regulating it now.. I mean, they have little warning thingies on posts that have "issues." You're probably fine if everything has sources and no errors, etc. but it's probably best to cross-check to make sure it's accurate. A person certainly shouldn't use wikipedia for any academic work.

Not as a source, anyway. It's great for when you're starting out with a certain topic and could do with looking into avenues of research, etc.

I was playing TDP early and i was just leting my mind wonder as to what thief 4 will be like. i remember reading that eidos wanted to bring thief modern and i really hope that isnt so. I really think that it should be a renewal of the original storey line, a prequel. one of the Culters from tDP was never expanded upon greatly but played a small role in the original game, and wasnt to bad at all. that was the mage's. a prequel involving the mages and hammers with small pagan activity would be cool. along with some very cool mansions and awsome missions. maybe a war is on the rise between the hammers and mage's. there religions are diffrent and both sides feel heat from one another and are sturing up mistife. i thought it would be cool cause the mage is already set in to place in the DP and they obviously where around before the begining of the storey line. hammers have always had priests with mage like abilitys. maybe at the end of the prequel u help the hammers defete the mages and most are destroyed and some convert to hammerism and some branch off secretly which could involve thief 5 picking up after thief DS when the mages reapear out of thin air, along with someone new makeing thief 5 a very long and interesting game. all in all i think it would be pritty great.
also i think thief TDP should be remade exactly the way it is in the new engine they will be useing. keeping the same video cut seens only enhancing the quality. soon computers wont have much support for thief eara games and might not be able to run them. id like to see a very nice graphics upgrade to keep the game alive and kicking. maybe thief 2 could ship with thief 5 all redone if thief 4 hits it right on the head.

You can't be serious. Starting a new thread about this, I mean...

Soon computers wont be able to run them? I cant play Thief Gold at all, and Thief 2 is a battle to run, these great games are already being forgotten by new computers.
