Soon computers wont be able to run them? I cant play Thief Gold at all, and Thief 2 is a battle to run, these great games are already being forgotten by new computers.
That day will be a dark day indeed:(

I can get both Thief games running out of the box using wine in Ubuntu. :cheeky:

yea i did make a new thread about this. cause i dont want to read about 1000 other things in the same thread.
true it is a real pain in the but to play theif now a days. its a big let down imo. there should alwaysbe support for older games like this classic. theres so much you have to do after installing the game in starts to become a problem to play.

In a case of T1/2 that "so much" is doable in just a few minutes. And more important that with ddfix it becomes better than it was originally (better dithering, one resolution for all screens).

DDfix solved all my problems:thumb:
Install thief
install 1.18 patch
install DDfix
install darkloader 4.3
Voila!
And all that on vista ultimate with xfx9800gx2 GPU (got new rig)

I'd also add improved textures, improved sounds, widescreen mod, and darkhooks (and each of these, for the most part, is required for each game, 1, 2, and 3). Plus to install T1 you have to do it via run dialog with a switch.
I'm VERY happy and thankful for fans who have provided all this functionality, but the installation can get quite confusing if you don't have good backups and notes of necessary installation steps.
Eidos want to compensate some of the fan programmers and re-wrap the Thief installs with all this stuff? Why not?!?!?!?

Hi-res texture support is a T2 feature of ddfix as far as i know. So for someone that only plays fm's i don't think improved textures are essential unless there is an extra improvement in textures over ddfix texture support (not sure if there is any difference). After all it is an improvement over original thief game and it is not required for the game. For sounds i don't know never tried to install the improvement pack but still not required for playing the original game or even fm's.
What darkhooks i need for fms? I just installed darkloader 4.3 wich contains standar scripts.

Unfortunately DDFix isn't a cure-all for Thief-related technical problems. I can't get T2 to run on my new computer, even with DDFix. :(
