I only get sound during the opening ads. once I'm in menu there is no sound. I tried setting sound acceleration to basic in dxdiag but didnt help. it's v 1.1
did not try 1.0, dvd version.

In dxdiag, when you run the sound tests, do they complete successfully?
In particular, can you play sounds from a hardware buffer?
Amaze on 21/4/2006 at 23:29
yup, all fine here.
I should also add that this is the first game this has happened with. could I be missing some rare codecs?

Hmm, that's weird. I had a similar problem (but with all three Thief games) and it turned out that the webcam I had installed was interfering with the soundcard drivers.
But when I ran dxdiag, it said that my soundcard did not support hardware buffers. Once I uninstalled the webcam, all was well.

yea, I got that message earlier for some reason, but the last time it was fine. goddamn xp, should have stayed with 2000.

i to have this problem the main movies for the intro work but as soon as i reach the menu and in game there is no sound at all just a stuttering/fluttering noise which changes slightly depending on what i do which would be to do with which sounds are playing. i have neva had this problem with any games before and when i run dxdiag the sound and music test are all fine no problems at all

I'm having the same problem right now. It just appeared out of nowhere.
There's no sound in the menu, and only music in game. :nono:
Never had this problem before. Yesterday all was working fine. I can't think of anything that could've caused it.
At first I thought it were my headphones, but when putting them off and I turned on the speakers, it was still absent.
Anyone has a fix for this?
And where can I find dxdiag? I have DirectX installed (9.0c) but can't find the file.

well i all i did was restart my computer like a day or 2 after i had installed and then there was sound so i assume all mine needed was a restart, as for dxdiag click the start menu then click on run and type dxdiag in the box and hit run then direct x diag will run and allow you to save it

Thanks I found it.
Here a some things I did to see if I could find the problem.
If anyone sees things that aren't right, and knows how to fix it, I would really appreciate it.
Thief 2 Menu - AudioSpeaker Test: Not working!!!
About Reversed Stereo, Hardware Acceleration, Audio Channels, EAX Settings, what are the recommended settings?
Thief 2 Directory - Sound folder (C:\Games\Thief 2\snd\fx)
The music file stored there can be heard.
Dxdiag - Sound DirectSound test: All sounds can be heard
DxDiag - MusicDirectMusic test: Music can be heard
After that I stored the data and read the file DxDiag.txt. where do I have to pay attention to with this problem?
NVIDIA nvMixerI activated the speaker wizard.
Results:
ANALOG noise signal: can be heard
DIGITAL noise signal: can't be heard
Next all the speakers were being tested
Left front: Yes
Right front: Yes
Middle: No
Left back: No
right back: No
Subwoofer: No
In the NvMixer are 2 speakers selected, so probably that's the reason I can only hear two of them.
But it doesn't explain there is still activity to be seen in the spectrumanalyser and VU-meters when the speakers Left back, Right back and Subwoofer are being tested. Are you supposed to hear those as well?
