No Thief cutscenes, win7 sp1 x64, indeo just won't work... - by drivetheory

The last time i played thief was about a year ago and it worked in Win7 x64, cutscenes and all.
I had to reinstall windows a couple months ago because 1 of my HDDs in my RAID-0 array died, the only thing i can think of that is different this time around is windows 7 sp1 was released & is installed. during the troubleshooting procedure i of course rebooted as necessary and cleaned out the %TEMP% folders.
1) i've tried installing indeo that comes on the thief CD, it says a newer version is installed...
2) I've tried installing the Indeo video v5.11 package
3) I've tried installing the Indeo for XP v5.2 codec package
4) I've performed "Regsvr32 c:\thief\LGVID.AX"
5) I've copied LGVID.AX to syswow64 & unregistered the old location & registered the new location
6) I've run "sfc /scannow"
7) I've tried manually entering full paths under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32" replacing the relative paths.
8) i've included a beautiful screenshot to help explain my woes

10) UAC is disabled (fwiw, i even re-enabled UAC and went back to square 1, right right clicking everything and running as admin, made no difference)
IDEAS!?

Have you tried this command?
regsvr32 ir50_32.dllAh, saw it on screenshot.
1. If you have ffdshow installed, set it to "Use only in trusted applications" mode.
2. How many paths shows GSpot for rendereng the video? There should be at least two: VFW and DirectShow. Does any of them render properly in GSpot's preview?

You can try the link below as a last resort. After indeo playback in T1/2 stopped working for me (again) I recoded all TDP/Gold/TMA vids to VP6 (flash) which should play fine on most configs.

I recently switched from XP to 7 x64 and jumped through all the hoops to get briefings to work within Thief. Everything was working perfectly and then without reason, I encountered the same problem you describe. The strange thing was a bunch of different media players couldn't play the videos however VLC worked perfectly. I spent the better part of the night screwing around with ffdshow and didn't get any results. I came agross a program called Filmerit which instantly solved my problem.

I ran a scan and sure enough the Indeo codecs came up as "broken". I deleted all registry entries for Indeo version 3 and 4, and repaired version 5. I still have to register LGVID.AX before I play but that is better than no videos at all.:thumb:
