Because only baddies play with default configs/on a console and can only pick between SETUP A and SETUP B lol.

WSAD - durp
LMB - fire
RMB - jump
MMB - ADS
Space - Crouch
Z - Prone
E - Use
R - Reload
F - Flashlight/Night vision/whatever
C - Melee
Q - Special button 1(spotting, cast magic missile, slomo, etc.)
X - Special button 2
Shift - Walk/Run/Sneak/cling to walls, whatever
Tab - Some kind of in-game menu(where applicable) from which I can navigate to other in-game menus, usually inventory
LCtrl & LAlt - Leaning
Num+ - quicksave
Num/ - quickload

Also crosshair = off whenever possible

This is more or less what I'd usually use, barring esoteric exceptions. I have to say though that I am tempted to give Koki's setup a test drive as it does make a decent amount of sense. Particularly Ctrl + Alt for leaning - inspired. I've never given my key layout THAT much thought in terms of setting up from scratch, it has more or less clumsily evolved over time.

Oh, mine is evolved too. No reward for guessing where Num+ quicksave comes from. E as use is Half-Life, C as melee is Modern Warfare, Q as spot is BF2142. RMB as jump is from Quake 2 I think?

My preferred configuration isn't too far off the standard, most of the time.

WASD: as usual

E: use

R: releoad,
F: Melee (both there so they can triggered by my index finger quickly).

Mousewheel :change weapons.

RMB: zoom/power attack/block (game dependant)

Space: Jump

Crouch: Z


If the game supports it, I'll also use my mouse's additional buttons to map whatever additional actions the game might require. For example, I "shout" in Skyrim by tapping one of my mouse's thumb buttons. Its a lot quicker than the default "Z"
