Back then the arrow keys were the standard movement keys and i thought it sucked for mouse gaming so i came up with something more comfortable. :)
The setup is embedded into my nervous system now so the more modern wasd setup will always suck for me. ;)

Up - up
Down - down
Left - left
Right - right
Shift - run
Ctrl - jump
Enter - crouch
PgDel - reload
PgEnd - use
WSAD is just too clumsy for me.

A - Jump to the left
D - Step to the right
S - Hands on hips
W - Pelvic thrust

Mine is normal-ish, except that I have my first three fingers all resting in a straight line (which I find a more comfortable position than the triangular WAD), with my thumb pressing ALT to go backwards (which is admittedly slightly off a normal rest position, but you can't have everything), or on SPC for jumping.
S - forward
ALT - backwards
A - step left
D - step right
W - use
Q - lean left
E - lean right
SPC - jump
CTRL and/or C - crouch
SHIFT - run
Left mouse - fire
Right mouse - alt fire
..and all other keys as seems most appropriate for the game, and clustering as much as possible around the left hand, of course.

My layout is much more comfortable for my hand than wasd, try it yourself. :)
Middle finger on A or Z (to move forwards/backwards)
Index finger on X, C (Strafing) or S, D (Jump, Crouch) or W, E (to lean or other special commands)
Thumb on Space or LALT (Use/Melee etc)
Ring finger om Shift or LCTRL (Run or walk slow etc.)
For me it enables me to access a wide range of keys without ever losing control of movement while always keeping my hand in a natural and comfortable position. :)

I see a problem in that you're using only one finger for strafe left/right, so you can't switch between the two as fast as normal WSAD setup.

The strafe keys are next to eachother, i can press both of them at once with one finger if i'd like. For me, that's faster and better than dedicating two fingers to strafing when you're only able to strafe in one direction at a time anyway. :)

W - foward
Q - strafe left
E - strafe right
Alt - back
A+D - weapon switch or leaning
R - use
space - jump
tab - info device
Ahris' layout looks interesting too, gotta try that sometime.
