Vogelfrei pointed out that German authors won't be able to extract the German versions of those voices to include in their missions, as the Hammer voices were not translated, and are instead subtitled in the German version of the game.
Can someone who owns the French version (and any other official languages which were supported) of TDS let me know if other languages were done the same way, or if the the Hammer parts were actually voiced in your language?

TDS only has subtitles. They skipped out on the extra cash it would cost to do vocals for all the other languages.

Unfortunately, no french voices available in TDS !
That's a pity, french voices (in Thief 1 & 2) are very cool.
When TDS came out in DVD format, I expected a "multi-lingual voices" option that you could switch any time you want... But no, it didn't happen... :nono:

English...because as far as I know there is only one English set of sound files for TDS. I guess there were not only German and French, but also Italian sound files for T1/2 (because in TDS there are usually italian subtitles, but...don't kill me if I'm wrong), but nothing of them in TDS - only four different kinds of subtitles/books/objectives. Furthermore, that DX-IW-SoundDrone programmer did want to make his programm replace the sound files, but he never finished it. Otherwise we would be able to create new files for different languages, although the expense would be giantic.

There was not even a text translation in italian for TDP and TMA, just a fan-made translation patch.

Replacing the files in the SchemaMetadata_xxx.csc is a horrible task, as for each file changed the offsets of all other files need adjustment.
My program in development (
http://www.cip.physik.uni-muenchen.de/~Wolfgang.Draxinger/stuff/schema_garret) schema_garret however will be able to dump the schemafiles, used as building instructions for the .csc file generation. If you installed T3Ed you will find a file "compilemetaschemas.pl" which is a perl script that builds the .csc files from the schemafiles and sound files.
In a few words: Using schema_garret you can extract the original sound along with the schemafiles (the schemafiles also contain the subtitles). Then you can replace the original sound files with custom ones and use compilemetaschemas.pl to build new .csc files.
That would make a fan made translation project possible, though I doubt it's feasible: There are over 18300 conversation files in TDS, which would all require translation. If you really want to do this, be my guest.
I'm already working on the next version, with extended dumping support, but don't expect anything before mid of April, I'm quite stuck with other stuff right now.

I was judging from what he (Cascade...?) told us. :erm: Translation itself isn't the problem, but we would have to find about...at least ten different voice actors plus a real cool Garrett, and that sounds like a lot of money (we have the required technology, though...at least I have, but that would save us only the fee for a sound studio – NOT the actors, NOT all possible driving around to get these people here etc).
There are 30,000 files listed by Sounddrone, but not all need to be replaced (and some are there twice or even three times), so I guess your 18,300+ should be our lower bound. Or maybe less...I cannot remember so many files in the game itself, usually I have heared all of them.

Well, a few non native english speakers of the TTLG could send in sound examples of various lines, spoken in their mother tounge.
Probably my voice doesn't fit for Garret, but eventually it would make a nice hammer priest...

I, too have some high quality recording equipment (excellent analog mixer with symmetric microphone inputs), a good sound card, and some voice microphones.
So eventually we could have multiple recording locations, based on where the voice actors live.
