Nonlethal gameplay WOULD be nice if there were more game elements (gongrats/reprimands from NPCs, different roles in missions) but as of now it's not much of fun. But then again prod/TRQ darts can be quite nice when
silent takedown is needed and they also make
first missions easier. After that if you are
playing it as a "role" play at least I don't think that it's worth risking my neck. Take my advice - better they than you.

I'm playing it for the 3rd time. I went primarily non-lethal until Paul died. I killed everyone in HQ, even Shannon and Jannice (except Sam, Jaime and Alex).
I'm just role-playing an angry nano-aug :)

Im playing on realistic, and only with nonleathals I have got to Paris. :)
Of course I do end up using the tranq darts a lot :)

I view being nonlethal as a matter of pride. I generally manage to avoid killing anyone until <BLOCKQUOTE><FONT size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, sans-serif">Spoiler:</font><DIV STYLE="background-color:#000080"><FONT color="#000080"> the secret MJ12 lab</FONT></DIV></BLOCKQUOTE>, and even after that only kill <BLOCKQUOTE><FONT size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, sans-serif">Spoiler:</font><DIV STYLE="background-color:#000080"><FONT color="#000080">MJ12</FONT></DIV></BLOCKQUOTE>

I played through the whole game (on hard) without killing anyone.
One bonus is the satisfacion- as JC Denton (can) say: "We're police officers".
(For those who have played through it, try knocking out the drug dealer instead of killing him.)
If you'll forgive the pretension, Deus Ex can be seen as a tool for determining the gamer's philosophy, play it as if you were actually living it, as you, and it'll tell you who you are.
Note: rossmac16 sometimes uses hyperbole to irritate

I was unable to do so on "Realistic" setting: the MJ12 commando took four shots with tranq darts and still kept coming - so out came the sniper rifle.
I seem to be unable to "neutralize" the MiB, as well - prod just makes them shake, no matter how many times I hit 'em . . .
I was assured a non-lethal DX was possible but I have yet to see it in action.
And yes, it IS more difficult to NOT kill; I think that's the whole point
Me, I like a challenge. if I want a slaughter, I get my kicks with SERIOUS SAM .
The road is long but the night is short

Somewhere from the beginning, after I took everyone out, lethally, Sam Carter gave me a mulitool and not the ammo, telling me to take nonlethal force. That pissed me off.

From what I understand from reading this month's PC GAMER Magazine, Deus Ex' programmers intend to make Deus Ex II much more "sneakish" - a la Thief even. We'll have the options to do whatever we wish. That's cool. Very cool

Gah. I don't like Thief.

Ohhhh, you're probably going to regret saying that, EvilFoo.
Anyway, about nonlethal methods, it was probably meant to be something to do it add more of a challenge, if you wanted to take that challenge. Well, the weapons that were no lethal were also more silent, but other than that...
