My favorite weapon in the early gmae is the crossbow: silent, effective and non-lethal. So I was rather disappointed to see that taking down all NSF troops in castle Clinton with knockout bolts STILL counts as though you killed 'em all, with Sam Carter griping and that b**** Navarre applauding.
I heard that the ONLY way to take out enemys without them counting as dead is the prod.
Is this true? What about the baton?
On a different note: I´ve just finished Hong Kong, and I´m wondering: should I eventually drop the GEP gun in favor of a plasma rifle? I´ve only got inventory space for one.
The way I see it: Yes, the plasma rifle does more damage thanks to it´s rate of fire. But so far I´ve haven´t seen an enemy that can take more then 2 GEP missles. Will this change?
Also, the GEP gun is much more accurate at long range...
Comments?

The thing in Castle Clinton is that if you go through the front entrance, and not the secret door, you get Carter's lecture.
The baton takes people out non-lethally, yes. The Prod is better though as even if you don't take them down in one, they get shocked and can't immediately fire at you :)
Definately keep the GEP Gun, the Plasma Rifle never really comes in handy, IMO.

Well, to conserve ammo I usually shock them with the prod, then gently nudge their head with the baton while they´re still jittery ;)

The baton works only if you can sneak up from behind, and only if you aim at the middle of the back. Head whacks with the baton seem to only annoy your target.

The riot prod is probably my favorite non-lethal weapon.
If i "miss" them and they are just standing there jittery. I whip out my pistol and shoot em. <IMG SRC="joker.gif" border="0">

This seems like a good time to bring this up... I was kinda disappointed that you had to kill the guard dogs. Even if you hit em with a tranq gun, when you walk up to them it still says "animal carcass"... Was the SPCA not contacted about this? ;)
Then again, I call my dog a carcass sometimes and he's only unconscious....

Actually. it doesnt matter which way you go in. I went in the front.... and left like a couple of guys walking around, so they didn't yell at me.
And NEVER EVER get the gay Rifle! It's... plain much much worse than a GEP gun. With ammo rarer than the GeP gun.

Well, the two main reasons I was thinking about switching to the plasma rifle are Hermann and Simons; Especially the later because he might have agressive defense system.
Then again, I´ll just save a few sabots for them *eg*

Hint: You don't have to wonder about what Simons "might have" - you can find out if you do a bit of snooping in the right places :)
As for Sabots, they are best against armored targets, not soft targets. You can read the ammo descriptions in the inventory screen, if you don't already know that :)

Just prior to meeting Herman you find a LAW rocket launcher. Drop your GEP, visit Herman and kill him. Get GEP back.
