Nostalgia all up in your face like. - by Renzatic

I love going home and digging through the closets and finding all the old junk I used to love. It's especially great in the old house I grew up in. The place was built in the late 20's, early 30's, has atmosphere out the ass. Everytime I go upstairs and start rooting through boxes in the old walk in closets, bare bulb hanging from a wire and all, I halfway expect to find Nazi gold, old war bonds...or the diary of Arthur Spiderwick. Ooooh.
Well, the house has been in the family for years and years, and thusly, it's the one best place to find old mothballed photos and heirlooms. It was the search for photos that led me upstairs. It's finding the most awesome thing ever that's leading me to post here...

...my old Atari 800 with Donkey Kong in it (and my old Gameboy). Now I'm on a big search to find my old disks. If I could manage to get ahold of Rescue on Fractulus, Ballblazer, HERO, Blue Max, and all those game compilations my uncle pirated for me, I'd be ticked stupid.
So did anyone here have one of these old machines when they were a kid?

Dude. Wow.

I know. It's a helluva find. I thought it was sold off in a yard sale years ago.
I'm gonna see if I can dig up the old cords tomorrow and test it out. It wouldn't surprise me if it did anything more than pop and billow a little smoke. The thing is about as old as I am, and has been stuffed in a dusty closet for who knows how many years. The temptation to play some Donkey Kong with an old Atari joystick is almost too much to bear, though. I gotta try.

Ahhh... I was playing M.U.L.E. on my Atari 800 while everyone else was playing Mario.

Very cool Renzatic. I love old consoles. I've resisted the urge to collect a few of them. The one I want on Ebay, isn't cheap. I've seen it sell for $500.00 Its the very first console game. The Magnavox Odyssey.
Being a child of the 70's. I remembered playing a type of haunted house game over at my girlfriends.
I thought it was cool. It probably fed and nurtured my budding love for horror. I still remember it to this day. It had some sort of overlay on the TV. A *cling*, what is the damn thing!! I didn't know the name of it. I had to know, it was plaguing me.
Only until recently, in talking with LM, we did some looking and scouring the net for what it was. I about shit, the first console..........ever.....:weird:

This is a pretty comprehensive site, albeit the spelling is retarded in some paragraphs. Its comprehensive in its detail of just how many versions of the Odyssey there are. Lot of background.
Anyhooo........

If I ever see one someday, and can afford to shell out the price, I'll do it.
What consoles do people have around here?
Digital Nightfall on 12/11/2008 at 04:19
Huff. The Atari 800 was not a console. It was a personal computer!
Renzatic on 12/11/2008 at 04:46
Did the Odyssey come with Pong built onboard? If so, I think I know someone that has one. I'll check it out and, if it's an Odyssey, I'll see if he'll be willing to part with it.
Edit: Just read the Wiki article. I don't think it's the one you're looking for. But even so, if he still has it, are you interested?

Oi, don't be dissing the Plumber.
He -did- saved most of gaming after E.T. borked it :)
Or so the story goes...

I was not able to resist, so now I have six old Commodores upstairs that I don't know what to do with. :(
