Loved that movie. It was filmed near my old home town and in the Astoria area. The decayed restaurant was just off of the road on Neahcanie mountain and the sign -a large one- said "Rotten Food".
The site was just past Arch Cape on the south side of Neahcanie, about 6 to 8 miles from Cannon Beach.
Now the good news. The place is ours, or will be when all the inspections are done and verified. The seller accepted our new counter offer and we signed our acceptance of his acceptance (sound like RBJ does it?).
So now the ratrace begins. Sort. Pack. Clean and paint. Move. Ship goods to new house. Sell current house. Good thing I'm not the kind to panic. :)

Dusty, how did you happen to find that house? Totally different location and all. Bit of a change for you, I'm happy for you! Now the fun begins. ;)

Seaside, on the coast about 12 miles away, was my "home town". Portland is about 30 to the east. My sister lives there in Seaside and, in my youth, I was a logger in the woods of the area.
My wife went to college in Portland, Oregon, and also lived there for a while with her first husband. We both like the climate, scenery and general area (Oregon coastal mountains, in the north-west corner of the state.
I went up in May of 2007 or 8 and looked at a few. This was one. The day I looked at it the gentleman from whom we are buying made an offer that was accepted.
A week or so ago, my wife was looking at listings (we were still shopping) and noticed it was on the market again. I called my agent, he called back an hour later and said it was being taken off the market while the owner tried to renegotiate with the bank.
The next day he called back and said it is available, the seller can't get a deal with his bank. So... the rest you know.

Congratulations, Dusty! What a coincidence that the same place came back on the market so soon. Good luck for you, though. My daughter and son-in-law just moved into a place that looks a bit like that on 25 acres up here and they love it.

Here is a link to a Sat photo of the area. Highway 26 is the "Sunset Highway" to Portland from the coast, and vice versa, a little to the right on 26 is the town of Elsie.

Nightwalker, 25 acres is a nice chunk. We looked at a couple in the 10 to 15 acre size, but the few that we liked were subject to heavy snow and flooding. This does not have a woodlot associated with it, but it will do the job and then some.

Wow, that's a beautiful house :) You'll need to thief-proof it though, I can see a few points of entry....lol Beware of neighbors with rope arrows :)
Congratulations and happy moving :)
