Since when do recursive division archery and 200 m breast stroke have a popular culture?

. . . So I've been watching some events on internet TV via the BBC website and can I just say; fornicate me sidewards with a china teapot Jenkins, that is one cracking good site.
It's just so... well thought out and executed. I was watching some swimming (Ye Shiwen owning the pool in the 200m medley) and just what its how the who where the shit did this thing COME from? The site and the video player I mean, not the Chinese swimmer.
Round of applause for the BBC, what. Welcome to the future and all that.
I'm (almost) speechless.
:D As an ex-BBC employee, I've always been a fan! They started making changes to the site about a year ago or so and brought in the video player a few months back. It is fantastic, particularly when you want to watch 3 or 4 things at once. So we've got one event on the telly and 2 or 3 on different players in different tabs and windows, or in the pop-out player and the text commentary going at the same time too. It's brilliant.
And congratulations to Phelps - so pleased for him.

I haven't been that interested myself, but my grandmother had the swimming on yesterday evening. The gushing over Phelps gets quite annoying and repetitive.
"Did I mention he has 19 gold medals?"
"Oh shall I just repeat he's the greatest Olympian of all time, I think you might have missed it the last few times I said it"
I can appreciate that he leaves everyone else behind by a fair margin, but I think we all know that he's one of those people who were apparently made for a particular sport... It's almost like worshipping an eagle for being so good at flying. Well, why not? Eagles are quite remarkable.

The BBC is an arse that way. I'm afraid Blighty is befuddled by multiple personalities - one part hardcore euro socialists that think nothing of an NHS or BBC, the other part capitalist profiteers, penny pinchers and misers.
When you consider how accessible US public broadcasting is (PBS for example) - it's shameful.
Hell, even if you're in the UK auntie Beeb will squirrel the content away after a couple of weeks and never let anyone see it again.

It may be on the list but ...
No no no. That's the BBC. Thailand is on
YouTubes list.
jay - I don't think the BBC is being an arse. For one thing I pay the TV License and the rest of the world doesn't.
However, I'm a futurist or something and think everyone should have access to everything in every country which is why I'm not that fussed if people find a work around. But in the UK we seem to vastly underestimate the amount of net traffic (perhaps we can't pay for it all) but after working for the NHS for years and EVERY year finding that the job application systems are overwhelmed, plus the Olympic ticket site having the same thing earlier this year I just don't know if they have the capacity to stream to everyone.

If I thought for a second that hosting costs were the reason, not protecting potential income streams for the BBC's (
http://www.bbcworldwide.com/) evil twin sister, I'd have some sympathy.
