No no no. That's the BBC. Thailand is on
YouTubes list.
So it is. Don't know how I read over that. And I can't believe it didn't turn up or I missed it earlier looking up videos on the YT search bar (thinking people might have put up unauthorized rips that'd stay up a day or so; I guess I was looking for the wrong things), which probably explains why I missed it here. Thanks! :D

The BBC hasn't been perfect though. After cutting to yet another pointless montage in favour of live coverage, they went back to the BBC commentator announcing, without the merest hint of irony: "You've just missed the biggest cheer of the night as Jessica Ennis was introduced to the crowd". No BBC, you missed it.
That said, it couldn't take the shine off the greatest night in British Olympic history :D

Yes I saw that. It was... inconsequential. But a shame nevertheless. Overall I still give it 10/10. So far. I still can't believe they've got it so right.
In other news; this medal haul is unreal. It can't continue though.

Wait, I thought we hated sports culture?
Bring me up to speed here, someone
Mostly amateur weird events once every four years I can live with. Individuals and small teams aren't gigantic clubs with stadiums purporting to represent a town or something and making a fortune by selling over priced licensed copies of the uniform they change every so often. Not usually at least.
It's still kind of deluded, but differently so.
Anyway, I've hardly watched much, but channel 9 here have been so fucking annoying. It's partly because I know the good stuff is out there on the net and being stuck in front of the TV sucks. But you really would not know it was past 1992 the way they are doing it: Nothing but the same old same old "prestige events"; filling time with gymnastics because it's visual; only showing sports Australians are in and they think have a chance at winning; highlights and reruns of things over and over while other events are going on we could be watching; even cutting away from actual events to show more reruns and gymnastics; spend more time telling you a mens 100m heat is coming up than watching actual stuff right now.
Knowing what the cable companies and the BBC etc are doing (and what the ABC would have done if the fucking bastards didn't have the whole thing locked down) makes this completely infuriating. They have 4 individual digital channels, for god's sake. What do they do with them? Play the same shit four times.
A complete disgrace.
Anyway, good to see "fat" Ennis win. And our ladies (
http://youtu.be/esvXXU2Jlp8) dunking on the Russians is pretty cool.
SubJeff on 6/8/2012 at 06:20
Hmmm. Never heard this fat Ennis jibe before. Or is this an Aussie Ennis?
In other news; I hear the 100m final was totally cocked up in the USA. gg NBC by all accounts. In fact I hear they've messed up loads of it.

No, (
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2012/may/24/jessica-ennis-fat-olympics) same one. (there are athletics nerds in the family, so I hear these things now and then).
It was probably more a discussion of her being too buff, but spoken by a mealy mouthed old twerp for whom all weight is 'fat'. Even that's vaguely sexist in it's own special athletics way, being about 'girls should be the right shape to run' even in the heptathlon. And obviously proven to be full of shit in the end.

I agree that channel 9's coverage has been disappointing. I think I'd rather have NBC.
But somebody seriously said that Jessica Ennis was overweight? What kind of fucked up world do you have to live in to think that? And while we're on the topic of body image, why did female track & field athletes start wearing bikinis?
SubJeff on 6/8/2012 at 11:51
When they started to get sexeh!
Seriously though, less weight?
I can't believe that about Ennis. She doesn't really float my banana boat but God damn she's in amazing shape.

Perhaps heat dissipation from the skin and less drag from extra clothing.
Also no one should be shocked by fine women showing off their physique...
