First I looked up some
Dark Souls gameplay. ... Can't really understand all this bitching about difficulty though; I guess people either really suck at videogames or have lives and can't spend a couple of hours grinding souls.
Another informed opinion by a guy who looked at a video of the game!

After finishing Rage last night, I am utterly disappointed in the technology behind Skyrim. On one hand I'm impressed that setting everything to low (which is the only way it will run on an 8800GT) looks better and runs better than Oblivion, but on the other hand I just played a game with huge sweeping vistas and enormous view distances that never dropped below 60FPS and looked amazing. Oh and the animation quality difference is jarring.
Then again, this happens everytime a new Bethesbryo game comes out, and after an hour or two I've gotten to used it. The environments look interesting and ES games are all about exploring anyway.
I also played the first mission of the MW3 campaign and I was so bored by the end of that mission that I am thinking I might not be able to handle another 5 hours. CoD 1/2/4 worked for the same reasons the Brothers In Arms games or Allied Assault are so great - they were pretty blatantly influenced by Spielberg. After CoD 4 both the Treyarch and IW developed games turned into shitty Bruckheimer movies for some reason, and I think I've finally reached the point where playing them makes me want to go do something productive instead of wasting my time. The harder Activision pushes this franchise into "yearly mindless blockbuster" territory, the more I realize that watching a typical blockbuster action film is way more rewarding. Nothing about the series seems even slightly plausible or authentic anymore, and that's sad when the early games were pretty damn close to the same level as the classic war movies.

What?
I can't say much for Modern Warfare (aka Michael Bay porn) but World at War and especially Black Ops are fucking fantastic, and I'll fight anyone who tries to call Black Ops a "shitty Bruckheimer movie."

Yehh. I replayed Modern Warfare two times, it was so fresh.
I played Modern Warfare 2 one time.
I didn't play Black Ops.
...
Why are zombies buying the same game every year I dunno, I guess because they are zombies.

Or maybe some of us just legit enjoy the Call of Duty experience unironically, you insufferable toolbag. Who the fuck are you again? Get out.
Whatever. I don't care what anyone says. If you play ONE fucking Call of Duty, play Black Ops. Having played them all (save MW3 -- getting to that soon) Black Ops is the best marriage of classic Call of Duty gameplay with a story that actually fucking matters. Modern Warfare? Not so fucking much.

And who de facto are you again and why do you act like you own this place behehe

Black Ops had an awesome story, at least towards the end, but the actual gameplay was shit.
Actually, I'm 2 hours into MW3 (just finished the OMG SHOCKING scene) and aside from the last mission in a warehouse where I finally had a proper CoD medium range gun battle that felt like actual combat, it's been fucking boring as hell.
Funnily enough, after that OMG SHOCKING mission I started going HOLY SHIT THIS IS GETTING GOOD. Then I realized I was getting excited during a goddamn loading screen. Maybe it's me, but that's sort of what I see as the problem with the last 4 CoD games - exciting loading screens, then incredibly boring fucking gunplay that isn't convincing in any way whatsoever. Yeah, woo, time to shoot some incredibly shitty AI with my invincible buddies so I can get to the next cutscene. It's like a fucking morphine drip.

It's pretty much straight up Call of Duty, so I'm not sure what you mean.

OMG SHOCKING
Out of curiosity, what exactly is it?
