Is there anyway or is anyone working on a way to spoof shadows for the NPC's..? Sorta like a small lfixed dark area directly underneither the NPC. I have always felt that was something that should/could be implemented in the dark engine..

There is such a thing in Dark, but it looks pretty terrible. Which is probably why the games didn't ship with it on. :D

aahhh, does anyone have a screen shot or a video of said shadow... surley are very mature thief community would have found a way to clean it up etc by now.?

It's a rendering effect I believe, meaning you'd have to actually alter the engine to improve it I suspect. But I'm far from an expert. I'll try to get a screenshot posted this evening if no one else does first.

The shadow looks terrible in T2, and SS2 too, it has colored spots changing their color as the object moves. It's because of colored light support. While T1 hasn't got colored light, the shadow looks better without those spots, but it cuts off on sloped surfaces. This feature just isn't the best in DE, though there's nice TG FM Murder In Featherstone, where AIs have shadows and this enhances atmosphere a bit.

I would love to see real-time dynamic shadows in Thief 1/2! It's already been done in Quake. As far as little circular shadows go, I think they look awful... It's better to have no shadows than those in (e.g. Deus ex 1).

you say that, but the NPC's in thief never look like their walking on the surfaces thier stood on, unless they are outside in certain situations.. I think just a small diffuse shadows directly below the NPC would do wonders..

I just tried this out (first time in a couple of years) and it must be the new system and maybe DDFix, but it looks much worse than I remember. The shadow constantly flickers between dark and light, with prismatic colours mixed in. I think it would be better to emit or attach a shadow object which follows the AI around under their feet. Not too hard to do, but might be a resource hog depending on how it's done. It also wouldn't work right on stairs or inclined terrain.

It's not related to DDFix or anything else but the engine, everyone has the described effect, appeared as soon as colored light did, it also caused light_bright spots around the camera in software mode, therefore in DromEd's 3D view.

Ok, I just don't remember seeing that before then, even in D2.
