thanks for the effort
Kernel_GFXALL.ibd -->6632KB
btw, I don't have any virus scanner, just zonealarm and ad-aware

(moderators: this discussion has gone into a DX:IW texture pack discussion, however the same problem would most likely happen to this user and others with the same configuration with my Thief: DS texture packs, so it could still be helpful to people here)
OK, thanks. I'm running out of ideas here, however.
Let's see here:
You have the CD version. Check.
You have Windows XP (should work then - at least if it's vanilla XP and not 64bit). Check.
No interfering virus scanner. Check.
I was about to ask you to check if the .ibd files are Read Only, but if they were you would get an error message from ibd_patcher.exe, it wouldn't just not start, or start then hang (how long did you wait to see if it was hanging, btw?).
Other, similar problems should also result in an error message from ibd_patcher.exe.
One thing I'd like you to try though: I'm not sure how far into a successful texture pack install you came, but I'm pretty sure the pack was installed, only the new textures have not been 'enabled'.
If so - could you go to Start\All Programs\Eidos\Deus Ex - Invisible War\Cumulative texturepack\ and click the ibd_patcher link.
Tell me what happens, if anything. It should start ibd_patcher.exe, and you should see ibd_patcher.exe's user interface. Initially, it should run through a list of all the textures (this should be a rather long list); this will take a few seconds.
If it works that far; pull down the dropdown list, pick the John-P_Environment Preset, and click either the + or - button on the right. See what happens. If ibd_patcher.exe works as it's supposed to, it will take a little while until it's finished. If the timeline at the bottom just races through in like four seconds, then it's not doing its job properly.
But my current "theory" here is that it could be that it's your dual core CPU that doesn't like ibd_patcher.exe (or the other way around). If yours is a dual core version. If not, it could be the Hyper Transport tech, which I guess is similar to Intel's Hyper Threading, where you also have "two CPUs".
I personally haven't tested my installers on a lot of systems, but there are thousands of people with various configurations who have downloaded my files, so unless they just don't care when the packs don't work instead of telling me, then this problem is at least very uncommon.
Personally I've tested my installers now on my previous desktop PC, which was a 3.0GHz hyperthreading P4, and my current laptop, which is a 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo, which is also a 64bit, dual core design, and my installers work on both those machines.
That said, I don't have a problem playing Thief: DS or DX:IW on this dual core CPU, while others with AMD dual cores have to shut off one core to make the games run properly, as I've understood it.

everything happened like you said, there was listing, blue fielding and checking until all was checked, but we are talking about the second patch not yours, when I try to install yours it always freezes at
b(being), so I can't pick your preset because it isn't there to pick. I waited for about 20min or longer.
Then when it got to the
b freeze point I started the ibd_patcher.exe again and noticed that now a lot of textures are unchecked, so I had to manually check them (which took a while) and every time those bottom little slashes were like indicating that they are being loaded, then I clicked the plus icon, it took a while but slashes went all the way, then I shut down your unresponding frozen pack with tm and then the ibd_patcher.exe normally.
So when I started the game I noticed that the faces reversed to poor default versions, there was no purple glow and other things, so I guess your pack just doesn't work and the other one did load something if not everything although it too froze but I guess it froze at the end so it practically worked.
So I guess that's that, and you are right, most people just don't bother when something doesn't work from the first try.
Well, thanks anyway!
P.S.
I chose your pack because of that purple glow which was in Deus Ex, and other improvements but I guess I will have to settle with that scar face(what the hell were they thinking?).

By the way - it just occurred to me from looking at your first screenshot, that that's not the latest version of the Cumulative Texture Pack. The latest version is 1.0.0.4. Not sure which version you've got, but it has to be at least three months older than the current version.
Not sure if it would help at all, but you should try to first use the uninstaller for the file you've used now, just to clean things up. Or, since the uninstaller may not work properly either, you could (
http://www.john-p.com/textures/Cleaner.html) use my Cleaner.exe in order to remove any registry entries left behind by the installer you've now used.
Then (
http://www.john-p.com/textures/DX-IW/Cumulative.shtml) download my latest installer and try that.

I would like to take a moment from this trouble-shooting thread and say thank you John P, your textures rock my thieving world.

Thanks, it worked with that new version, but not in the way it should-
(

again it froze.
so I ran the patcher and selected all the textures and finally the results were visible in the game.
