Just wondering how many WASD users here use the number row in gaming. (I'm working on a new keyboard layout, and am trying to figure out the importance of the row. I'm a Numpad gamer, so I don't use it)

Other than every five seconds in an RTS to manage groups and every ten seconds in FPS to change weapons, not at all.

Hey, the poll hasn't even appeared yet.

You forgot the "Never, I game on a pad" option.

Number key row all the way for changing weapons in FPSes. I've almost always ignored the mouse wheel for this task.

As has already been said:
RTS games: all the time to manage control groups
FPS games: all the time to switch weapons
RPGs: generally used for hotkeys for equipment/spells
I never liked the mouse wheel for changing weapons, I'm more likely to bind next and previous weapons to something near the WASD, instead (like Q and E if the game doesn't have lean).

Often for RPGs, and sometimes in FPSs, as I tend to use mouse-wheel a lot more these days. Call it an Often overall.

Depending on the game, I use the number keys a lot in FPSs. Apart from in some games I will use the mousewheel (such as Far Cry, where you only ever have four weapons at a time anyway).

There are some people who prefer ESDF instead of WASD because they get access to more keys on the left and right side of them. I never tried it, but it IS probably better.

WASD, and yes, I use # keys above as HotKeys, their function changing between games.
