RE: Batman: Arkham Asylum.
The game developer worked with Nvidia engineers to develop driver dependent hacks to get AA working on DX9. Unreal Engine 3.0 only natively supports AA on its DX10 rendering path, it doesn't on DX9 because it uses diffused rendering.
It isn't some evil conspiracy by Nvidia, AMD just don't really seem to give a shit about actively pursuing game developer relations. Similarly it's stupid to believe that DX10.1 adoption was curbed by Nvidia bribery, there was just no point in bothering. DX10 offered no real benefit to anyone, especially since the majority of today's games are console ports. Also the unpopularity of Vista also has a lot to do with DX10 not being widely adopted. The DX10.1 rendering path wasn't removed from Assassin's Creed due to pressure from Nvidia either, do some proper research. Take off your tinfoil hat and quit it with the ill-informed reactionary rants.

Do they still make discrete PhysX cards?
No.
Quote:
I was under the impression that they were discontinued since Ageia got taken over, with the functionality being completely integrated into nVidia's graphics cards.
They were.

As for having it separate, I
think Bikerdude mentioned in Tech that you could plug an nVidia graphics card into a standard PCI-E slot and have it set to work exclusively on PhysX processing, so I'm
guessing you could still do that with a low-end nVidia while having an ATI as the standard graphics processor. Depends on how the driver and toggle is set up I suppose.

PhysX is only beneficial in games that utilise it extensively I think, such as Mirrors Edge, where the difference is actually shocking.
I was gonna reply and be like "What are you talking about, there were hardly any physics at all in Mirror's Edge" but then I youtubed it and (

What size hat do you wear, anyway? I need to know so I know how much
tinfoil I'll need for your Christmas present. This thread is proof of your unrestrained paranoia reaching new heights. Seriously, what is this "zomg nvidia IS TAKING OVER AAAAAAAAAhh" horseshit?

So ATI is blaming everyone else for their failure of actually giving a shit about what they do.
This reminds me of something.... oh yeah "Fallout 3 doesn't crash because it's unstable! It's your systems fault! It conspires with every other program you have installed so Fallout 3 would crash and make you believe it's ridden with horrible bugs that nobody fucking fixes! And also it's your fault customer! Yes you! You're not doing it right!"
Yeah nothing new...

Basicly, from what I've experience, nvidia are willing, or have more cash to work closer with the developers of games, not to ensure that the game only works with them, but to make sure the developers get the most out of the hardware.
and
deffered rendering results in the AA hardware only getting two big screencovering triangles as an endresult of how it works, and you can imagine what little it can AA on that one.

I'm surprised by the unanimous support to nvidia here. Apart from my Rage Pro 3D 10 years ago -pure crap and crap drivers-, I had nothing but fantastic experience with ATI/AMD cards 9000, 9800, x800xt and 4850. I obviously bought good makes and all of those were cool & quiet powerhouses.
Had a terrible experience with a GeForce 4 (underpowered and random reboots) and my 6800 Ultra was powerful but noisy and ended up frying because of a faulty disspator.
nVidia control center is better for sure, but I rarely meddle with the settings in game. I prefer, you know, to play the game.
I'm totally getting a 5000 series when my 4850 becomes obsolete.

I, like all the others in this thread ONLY spend time in the nvidia control center. How could you think we wanna play the GAME ????? That's for pussies with onbard VGA, real gamers edit configfiles, create custom profiles and jerk off about it on game forums. also, they only support 1 (!!!!) card manufacturer, like in football it's a sacriledge to buy from another competitor. NOBODY here has every bought a card by ATI AND Nvidia as evidenced above....
geez, what a stupid assumption, did you even read all the posts ?
this is not about who is better, it's about stupid back-and-forth accusations between the companies.
