Nothing can help that game...

It's been confirmed that this driver fixes L4D's choppy framerates that occurred when multi-core rendering was enabled.

Well, did YOU change to Vista just because of DX10?
Did you want to play Halo 2 this badly?
No, I didn't. I'm still using XP, I was just slightly miffed that we didn't get DX10 for the bonus pretties in a few games.
And I certainly don't play Halo.

LOL, this port, IMHO was just a joke. The specs alone were laughable. And for what? Minimum settings and a slide show framerate. It was not ported w/NEARLY the amount of love and enthusiasm that made the trilogy ports so great. Bet we don't get 10% of the modding community we had from the trilogy.

the Irony here is that the newer the Nvidia driver the more problems it has with games. I've had to roll back to 169 drivers that came with my card just to play Mass Effect. I've had other games that had problems with the new drivers. I just wish they started focusing on getting quality over quantity out.

Nvidia's driver support is still far better than ATI's. That plus the fact that Nvidia cards have better compatibility with older titles makes it them the lesser of the two evils.
RE: Mass Effect, you'll want to contribute to (

UT3 was broken by v181.xx drivers, reportedly this v182.xx one fixes it. I'll have to give it a go.
EDIT: Nope, UT3 still crashes less than 10 minutes into a botmatch. I ain't rolling back to an ancient driver (from last October) just for some unpopular multiplayer game.

Yeah I'm still using 178.24. When I finally got a new PSU to install the Big Black Monster with I used the most updated drivers at the time (180.48) and they were fucking terrible. Every game I had crashed constantly.

Honestly, the rule has been for me, for years, simply this: I only update drivers if I have a problem. Like, if I am having crashing, global slowdowns, etc. In other words, 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it'. I wouldn't notice 8% performance increase to save my life anyway. I mean @ 60 fps that is less than 6 frames. At 30 fps it is like 2 or 3.

some patches made some games playable for me.
i just rollback if they don't work but that never happened for me.
i always update my video driver to the latest version, not matter if beta or not and I haven't had any problems, only benefits until now.
