Has anyone played it yet and if so, how was it?
Cheers.

Apparently its better than the main campaign. From what I've played of that it seems reasonably good if a little harsh on my system for such weak visuals. I plan on playing it again after I get through my exams in January, just don't have the time these days.
I may have made a mistake in picking a Warlock too :(

I thought the original campaign was good but hardly fantastic, while Mask of the Betrayer was exceptional (though some people didn't like it for whatever reason). I would expect Storm of Zehir to be very good but haven't gotten my hands on it yet. It could be a similar story to NWN1 - great engine and everything but the original campaign was subpar, while the expansions got progressively better.
Storm of Zehir is supposed to bring back the party days of Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale, so hopefully that will have solved the problem of horrifically frustrating AI in NWN2 which means that we should be in for a good expansion pack.
That said, I haven't played it so it could be wank.

Very hard, that.
RPG Codex loved it, that's all I can say.

What reputation do RPG Codex'ers have? Are they like NMA'ers with a broader scope?
Koki on 16/12/2008 at 18:41
They're like NMAers with 7chan.

Koki loves RPG Codex.

And I'm sure the 'codex loves kok, too. Well, except skyway, of course.
General verdict on SoZ is that it is pretty good, so long as you go into it not expecting the second coming of Planescape Torment, story wise- it's about as different from MotB as it's possible to be and still be an expansion pack for the same game. Some of its added features ought to be really useful for modders too.
It's also been an excellent source of proreviewer rofls as it is blindingly obvious some of them only played it a few hours before writing their reviews.

I heard it was packed full of combat, so that's a deal breaker for me. I haven't really cared for any of the NNW 1 or 2 pausable real-time messes that passes for combat.
Give me a turn-based grid. If Fallout 1-3 did it (sans grid, maybe we don't need a grid) so could all of the Bioware titles. Wouldn't Baldur's Gate be awesome with turn-based combat?
Zygoptera on 17/12/2008 at 00:27
Check out King's Bounty: The Legend, if you haven't already. Plenty of grid and turn based combat there.
Um, I'm also fairly sure that Fallout 3 is neither turn nor grid based (though the first two were both).
One of the things from a couple of the SoZ reviews which was really noticeable was that most of the people saying 'too much combat' didn't have a sensible leader, ie a rogue or ranger (even if you didn't make one yourself one you can pick an NPC one up almost immediately). If you've got one of them as a leader you can pretty much choose when to fight and when not to, at least so far as random encounters go.
