Another problem is that AIs tend to start patrolling from the nearest point to the blue room, not the nearest point to the place where they are teleported. If there's not enough space to make a blue room I would prefer to put them in solid.

That technique was also used in Calendra's Legacy so you're in good company.

One disadvantage to starting an AI in solid, in my experience, is that they will often simply refuse to be an actor in a conversation if they start in solid, even if they are teleported into air before the conversation is triggered. I don't know why that is, but I definitely saw it when making Drymian Codex using 1.19 (I've not tried it since then with 1.21).

I had that issue recently (i.e. in 1.21). If an AI is to patrol and it needs to be a conv actor, it could be placed in a blueroom, not set to patrol, and the M-DoesPatrol metaprop can be added to the AI after it's been teleported.
