I'm not sure I'd like having an achievements-based Thief game - it seems... unnecessary. But if they were to introduce such a thing (if not the real game then in FMs) I'd like the achievements to be real and impressive - such as fully ghosted, no knockouts, all secrets, all loot, no innocents harmed, all additional objectives done.
If that was the case I wouldn't just want some bonus statistic on my mission complete screen. You could be awarded by a loot bonus that you can find in the next mission, or a unique weapon such as a sword which you can run with/hiding the light/with holy blessing, or a rare potion or even a rare tome that will give you backstory. Such things could be added to the next mission or available in the shop (T1/T2 shop that is!) for the next mission.

hammered : you stole every bottle of wine and drank them all - triggers a side mission where Garrett goes in search of a hangover cure, lights are too bright, noises too loud, coordination is off, vision is blurred etc....
wasted : Garrett picked and ate every mushroom in the level, now he giggles all the time and can see things no one else can see, most of which aren't really there
pwned : Garrett falls into a large well lit locked room losing all his tools in the process, as he does this every badass character in the level is teleported in there at the same time
weird : Garrett ignores the loot and steals every piece of cheese

Well usually games that have achievements they're only turned on for the xbox and ps3 versions of the game on the pc they're off by default and you have to hack the game to turn them on or are impossible to turn on because you need to be logged into microsoft live or steam or the ps3 network for them to actually work. Fallout 3 has achivements but you need to have a bronze or higher login in microsoft live for them to work, so when I play fallout 3 am only signed on the microsoft network, am not actually logged in, so the achievements dont work.

I think what TTK12G3 is trying to say is that having achievements might be a bit annoying.
Imagine you're doing a mission, and then knock out yet another guard.
BAM. A notification pops up, breaking immersion, and grabbing you out of the game and back into your chair in the real world.
That would seriously annoy to me to no end.

put them at the end with a loadout screen, no popups or notifications apart from the objective completion ones in game

OK, considering I suck with achievement names, I'll just give some reqs:
* Get to the top of [insert tallest building in game here] using only rope and/or vine arrows.
* Rob the Baron's Manor in a single night. (Assuming they do day/night cycles and an open world.)
* Toss every human NPC in a mission into a single pool or fire.

I believe if a game has achievements, they should teach the player how to play properly, not screw around.

Achievements for actually doing Garrett proud! :thumb:
Demerits for shaming Garrett.

Achievement unlocked: You completed the whole game without getting a single achievement. Now that record is broken. Great job, idiot.
Here's an idea: no achievements. I don't like achievements, they're a pinch and a wink from the developer and there are much better ways to do that. It does however sound like something that would work well in Hitman, for some reason.
