Its official, its delayed to 2nd quarter of 2006. Check 3dgamers forums under pcgames or any news site. Sorry for the bad news. But hey it gives me longer to play Morrowind and the expansions as I just got the game of the year addition this past weekend.

Is this official? Or is it similar to when they said it will be released at the end of November?

(
http://www.elderscrolls.com/games/oblivion_faq.htm) Official FAQ. This caused quite the uprising at the official forums, but people still don't realise that it's not official. This announcement came from Take2 in their (
http://ir.take2games.com/ReleaseDetail.cfm?ReleaseID=178238) Financial Update. (
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6136973.html) Gamespot also did a article on it.
BUT Take2 has no control over when Oblivion is going to be released, they are not bank-rolling development; they are only helping with International distribution. So when Bethesda feels the game is ready for distribution, rather it's "Holidays 2005" or indeed afterwards, they can begin distribution without Take2.
The only problem is everyone may not be able to get their hands on it immediately.

I checked 3Dgamers.com. They still have the ETA set for late 2005. There have still been no official ETA's mentioned and there is no 'delay' considering we have received no ETA.

But that only matters if this information is incorrect:
Quote:
Paul Eibeler, Take-Two's President and CEO, said that quality assurance was the reason for the delay. "We are moving the launch of Elder Scrolls IV to our 2nd quarter, based on the Bethesda Softworks requiring additional development time to ensure the title meets gamers' high expectations for this popular franchise," he said.

That really sucks, they must have caught wind of all of oDDity's rants about Morrowind up in General Gaming.
What worries me now is, is it likely they could be delaying it again for whatever reason?
VisPater3x3 on 1/11/2005 at 23:35
In response to piln's reply:
And that's why I said "rather it's Holidays 2005 or INDEED AFTERWARDS". Sorry if I wasn't more clear, but what I was trying to say, is that it's not completely official, until it's on the official site.
I am actually hoping it is delayed, because they may actually need more time iron out the bugs. OR... they could have been listening to the complaints on the official forums about the features they didn't implement or removed during development and now need more time to finish implementing some of those features, like during Morrowind's development.
The former being more likely, but looking at how many bugs were shipped with Morrowind, I welcome them trying to make Oblivion as bug free as possible.
