Is there any reason to think that recently released games right now represents a representative sample of games as a whole?
CCCToad on 19/6/2012 at 21:46
Since the argument is on the state of the gaming industry as a whole, keep in mind that the non-gamer's perception of the industry is going to be shaped primarily by the mainstream franchises they hear about: games like COD, Gears, God of War, etc. I'd say yes.

Heh. It would make more sense to do one with George Zimmerman on the right though (har har). He makes what Sarkesian made each week just for shooting one black kid!
Feminism's got nothing on righteous second amendment murder.

Oh jesus fuck that just made me cringe so much. Now, I hate True Blue as much as her, but for actual valid reasons, not her way of ham-fisting symbolism or BAWing because something can be maybe kinda sorta mis-represented in a way that does not abide by her narrowly defined "female standard." Oh no, Eric making Suky drink his blood is RAPE how dare the writers not lynch him right after it happens!? Ironically Anita comes off as the token (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnJxqRLg9x0) Straw Feminist she complained about in movies.

I guess those that are actively pursuing sexist notions possibly can't be told any better.
It depends on why they are actively pursuing sexist notions. For some, sexism is only a tool to obtain political or personal power, but a lot of times, active sexism is only the result of polarization gone to extremes. When this is the case, I think it's quite possible to change the attitude of the person who is sexist.

are you saying that as a man it's better to do nothing at all rather than speak up for women's rights?
Talking about something has very little value if your words can't change an opinion. Worse, if you're not very careful about what you say, you will probably end up polarizing opinions. So yes, I think it's better for most men to shut up (which is not the same as "doing nothing") rather than speak up.

So be a man and stand up for the ones you love.
Yeah, because we all know that standing up for the ones we love is... a man's job.

There have been some good discussions in this thread - and some posts with zero content. If we can keep it to the former sort that'd be great.

Lots of people collectively talking about something can change the cultural landscape though. It is how racism, sexism in general and homophobia have been largely quelled over the past century. Punctuating events like well known court cases, trigger events (e.g. Rosa Parks) etc... can get enough people talking and modifying their attitudes that the status quo culture can be diluted with each generation being told new information in light of modified attitudes. This takes the masses adopting a new viewpoint, which takes talking to achieve. Sure, the real drivers of the talking are the aforementioned punctuation events, but the talking is very much a part of the process.

Topically, RPS just posted an Interview with CD Projekt about (
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/06/21/cd-projekt-on-game-of-thrones-sexs-place-in-gaming/#more-112978) Witcher, Game of Thrones and Sexuality. A few key quotes relevant to our little Debate:
Quote:
And in the [Game of Thrones] books, I think there’s even more sex and nudity than there is in the TV series. Is it problematic in the books? For me, it’s not. It just makes sense. It’s power, politics, and sex. It is how we are – how we humans behave. It’s all about power, money, and sex. Come on, look at [E3]. Look at the booth babes.
Quote:
... removing sex from it would be kind of shitty. It’s just a part of this world.
and:
Quote:
RPS: But isn’t that, on some level, disrespectful to the audience – female or male? I mean, it profoundly alienates women and assumes men won’t care unless there’s sex involved. Like you said, in the cases of Game of Thrones and Witcher, this sort of thing fits the world. But what about when it doesn’t? Iwinski: Yes, it could alienate audiences, but you have to look at it from the quality of the product perspective. If it’s overused [in marketing], it probably won’t be a big product anyway. Really, I think the market is eliminating all the weaknesses and all the cheap tricks. But, at the end of the day, males are making certain decisions through hormones. People are paid to take care of the market and know it very well. Am I offended in some of these cases? Sure.

After watching that video, I am completely sure that she doesn't have the intelligence to properly read media even if it's simple as True Blood. Not saying it is some holy grail of scriptwriting, but this woman doesn't have any idea what she is saying and all her thoughts are unfinished and do not actually take the context of the series in mind.
Feminist like her are those that make feminists look bad.
