Of "Tropes vs. Women in Video Games" - and the internet - by Firefreak

She's made a new post on the Kickstarter page - you can look at it (
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/566429325/tropes-vs-women-in-video-games/posts/248956?ref=activity) here if you're a backer. Since it all happened so quickly, her and her team are still brainstorming on what to do with the additional funding but one thing that is going to go ahead is a beefing up the website's infrastructure as she assumes, quite rightfully, that the abuse is going to be ongoing throughout the project so they best be prepared.

No they should not. For someone who view women as inferior, a man who sides with feminist ideas always end up looking as a traitor and as an asshole who's trying to be friend with women only to have a chance to fuck. He end up looking as an hypocrite and, by association, he makes women look like hypocrites. Worse, he indirectly proves that women need men at their side to have a place in society. He makes women look weak. He indirectly proves to sexist people that women are inferior.
I'm so glad I went to bed instead of responding to this.

So dethtoll not only is a raging vagina but also has enough sand in it to be bothered about trash talk on the Internet?
Talk about character development! Then again I think "development" has far too positive connotations to be used fairly in this case

I'm not going to rise to your bait, Koki. Come back to me when you don't have a sloped forehead and a tail.

Part of me sometimes wonders if Koki is a sock puppet of Dethtoll's to make him look more measured and reasonable. But if not, then well done Koki, because that's what just happened.
In fairness though, I agree almost entirely with Dethtoll about games being quite sexist. It's harder to notice because the variation in the amount of insensitive gender stereotyping varies around a central average of sexist content, so the centre point of sexism in games is wayyyyy more fucked than e.g. in films, music, books etc... but it is harder to notice because the human brain automatically runs stats on observations, determines the norm and then treats the residuals as being the anomalies. So stuff like Postal 2 which has people burning women alive and urinating on their corpses or even Duke Nukem with its strippers dripping bank-notes will stick out as the percentage of games which treat gender poorly, when in fact it is a far larger proportion, but we're not treating it like that because of a simple cognitive bias.
This is why cultural change tends to happen via punctuated equilibrium. So the variation drifts about until we get something like this kick-starter and its accompanying scandal, which focusses all attention on new content, which will rightly be more scrutinised, lest some developer be labelled the douche-bag one. It's very much like sexism, racism, homophobia - they all became less and less acceptable as the attitude was focussed on and the light shone on it so it could be seen for what it is. Vile, unproductive, backwards, harmful etc.. So men should VERY MUCH be also pitching in and supporting feminism, because human group think will only drift towards enlightenment if enough people start to appreciate that something is not cool. This is just how we function as social animals.

Yeah, with all the 2k+ words long posts I make about videogames while dethtoll mostly focuses on ad hominem and excited shouting about Megaman.
Does your
total fucking denying of reality whenever you feel like it have a limit? Please, everyone, treat this as an open question

Sometimes alter egos take on a life of their own.
Besides, I wasn't being at all serious. Which you probably knew anyway.
I enjoy most of what you post, but that doesn't mean I won't take a pop when you're acting up.

Sexism is bad, but I'll sign the Koki bigot sign-up sheet any day.
Show me the dotted line and hand me the pink brony KKK hood & hate-cape and let's do this. :villager_pitchfork:
