I meant that I've known quite a few guys who say, "I'm pretty shy and insecure," but who are relatively confident and aggressive with women. They may honestly consider themselves shy and blah-blah, but they are only that when compared to the most testosteroned "Alphas." In comparison with the actual shy guys, these "I'm insecure but I get chicks" guys are really quite self-assured, etc. Not that I'm trying to undermine the validity of any feelings of low-self esteem, mind you. I'm not a big fan of the thought, "You don't have it bad unless you have it as bad as [whoever]." But it does seems to me that a lot of the fellows who say that they're shy/insecure/whatever with women really don't have a good grasp of what is to actually be that way. Not to imply that you're one of them; your statement reminded me of the phenomenon, but I'm not assuming that you're part of it.
