From what I've seen of the game so far, I'm going to second Demon Souls as the best RPG.
Then again, though I'm not going to argue horribly with Choosing Uncharted 2, as it was the best of the mainstream releases (barring Dragon age from consideration, which I can't comment on because of not playing it).
Best Voice I agree with, for main characters. Best overall I'd have to give to Ozzy as the Guardian of metal. Also great to see Shadow Complex honored, that was an awesome game. Finally, Brutal Legend has a better soundtrack than DJ Hero.

He only referred to it because of your claim of grammar nazism. So it was ironic wit. Kind of. And hence the plane we didn't get to see.
Yeah, but I needed to look like I hadn't made a mistake :(

On the upside, this year's awards could be viewed as slightly less whorish in one sense: more original IP. Five original IP games won awards of some sort, compared with...um...five last year. Never mind. Maybe it's like, a quota they're forced to meet.

I don't understand the hype around Uncharted 2. It doesn't look that special, terribly overrated. I can think of better games that acutally deserve those awards.

Which is exactly what the forums regarding those awards is filled with. A boatload of idiots proclaiming Uncharted 2 is a "crappy game" made by those "Crash Bandicoot idiots" and only "PS3 faggots" like it.
I'm pretty surprised Uncharted 2 won, it's by far my favourite game of the year. A huge step forward in gaming? No. Lots of replayability? No (yes it has multiplayer but I never touched it). But the single 10+ playthrough I gave it was fantastic, easily eclisping the 30, 40+ hours I've spent with other games this year. I really thought they were going to give GOTY to Modern Warfare 2 (which, while fun, it really doesn't deserve).
Also, Shadow Complex kicked ass.

So you mean you haven't played it but have an opinion anyway. It is mindless fun done very very well, it has this charm that few games can touch. When it comes to dumb movie action spoof enjoyment it's on par with No One Lives Forever, my favorite shooter ever. It is an absolute blast to play, it looks incredible, great score, great characters, what more do you need for a really good game.
CCCToad on 15/12/2009 at 07:26
It did seem that way at first.
However, it quickly lost that charm after the game became too ridiculously over the top that it was hard to take it seriously in the same vein as Indy and the original Uncharted. Complete recovery from a bullet wound in three days, without any modern medicine? Sure.
Fragony on 15/12/2009 at 07:49
It's more James Bond than Indy this time, I kinda agree that part of it's charm was lost but it is still a great game, one of these games that have your friends shut up when you are playing it because it's just so badass. They really put a lot of effort into it.

I like DragonAge but that game is buttfuck ugly, has an average story with bland leveldesign, bad pacing (meaning:no) in combat.......it's a "by the numbers" game. I liked Risen more (much more immersive, detailed and beautiful) but it's no GOTY either.
Demon(['s]?)Souls just blows everything out of the water. Not only in the RPG genre. It's in its own class and will certainly be the subject of many "game school" discussions/classes. it's a classic in old-school hardcore RPG and new-school online integration for single players. There is just no substitue.

Did you play the 360 version of Dragon Age?
