Well, I scored a mint condition Thief II:The Metal Age strategy guide (I collect them) for a sweet, sweet $7! I was wondering, how many of you have them? Are they scarce?
1 more question...is there one for Thief:The Dark Project or Thief:Gold? I have never come across one. Thanks.

I don't own any, but back when I never knew if I'd ever even get the games themselves (badly needed a new computer), I perused the Prima guides for TMA and TDS. If there ever were guides for TDP/Gold, I'd like to get my hands on them just to see if they have any unique images or story info. As far as I know, there weren't any guides for TDP/Gold. Not even a real game manual for TDP.

Yes there were real game manuals way back when.
And yes they made a guide for TDP, I have one. It sucks though, just sorta describes where to go and what to do with lousy B/W screenshots. They don't even include good maps for the missions, which is a big let-down. But oh well, I have them (guides for TDP and TMA) just for collectors. I don't know if anyone made an updated guide for TG.

Besides the manual RTF on the CD, there was a booklet version? I know booklets were published, sonny. Booklets for games have been made since before I was born. I simply hadn't ever seen one for TDP, whipper-snapper.:joke:
One can still see the manuals for Gold and TMA as PDFs, but no such luck for TDP.:(

I have the TDP Prima guide. It's nice enough, I guess. It's pretty similar to the quality and style of the TMA guide (which I have). The TMA guide has the developer interview, which I guess gives it the edge in value.
I'm not sure if there are any unique images (I would guess not, but I haven't carefully compared them to what I've seen elsewhere). It has some decent plot summaries and background information, but again, it isn't anything special.
One glaring inaccuracy: On the back it states "Complete list of all loot locations" or something similar, which is just plain wrong. The walkthrough shows you enough to complete each mission on expert and that's it.
You'll find far more comprehensive guides online, but when I'm going through another phase where I'm obsessing on Thief, I enjoy reading it before turning out the lights for the night. ;)
There is a smaller Prima guide for Thief Gold. It just covers the Gold missions, I think. I watched it go for just over $100 on ebay once. :erm:

Yes I meant for Thief. I should have typed "Yes there were real game manuals [for Thief 1 and 2] way back when." My old copy of Thief 1 has the manual booklet in the CD case front. The box also has a black cardstock default keyboard layout guide (with the top corners bent due to not fitting perfectly in the trapezoid shaped box)

No worries. Does the booklet have images or background images that aren't screenshots?

The background on my booklets for TDP and T2 are the same, a carving or something with a hand holding a hammer. The Thief Gold booklet has some background artwork that I don't recognize from the game, including a pic of what might be Garrett.

That's a bit I didn't know. Thanks for the post!
