Opps. It's past my bedtime and I messed up. The T1 and Thief Gold backgrounds are the same with the hand/hammer. It's T2 that has the artwork. I watched some cutscenes off the CD just now and looks like the art is from the game after all. The guy I thought might have been Garrett turned out to be Sheriff Truart.:o

I have got the two official walkthroughs for TDP and (
http://www.amazon.de/EIDOS-GmbH-Dark-Project-L%C3%B6sungsbuch/dp/B0000503TD/ref=pd_sim_w?ie=UTF8&qid=1202481209&sr=8-2) TMA. Both are quite...erm...cute (e.g. the burricks are constantly called saurians) and feature a lot of artwork like high(er)-res movie scenes, montages or really new stuff (like the big picture of Garrett outside the/a clocktower which I posted here some time ago); plus, in the TMA guide there are some additional artworks which are however quite far away from the original style. There are also a short articles about LG, about thieves in the middle ages with a book recommended and a nice introduction about Subway to Sally.

I don't know about Gold, but I just bought a sealed copy of The Dark Project, and it has a nice instruction booklet in the jewel case, along w/the aforementioned keyboard layout sheet. My jewel case copy of Gold just has a simple one sheet insert in the jewel case w/installation instructions. There is a .pdf manual on the disc.
Funny thing...TDP is one disc, and Gold is 2...:erm:

Well, Gold has extra missions, plus the level editor, plus desktop themes, so it deserves another disc.:)

I have the official guides for Thief 2 and Deadly Shadows. Both are excellent as far as I am concerned.
I never knew about the desktop themes on the gold disc. I will have to check them out. Thanks for the tip!

Would you kindly repost the picture of Garrett outside a clocktower? I've never seen that pic. And I'd love to see the artwork in the TMA guide, if you would consider scanning it. Pretty please? :p
