I think we're scratching the surface, here. I didn't know that Keeper Falek III wasn't in some other English international manuals for TDS, even though the quote and book attributed to him are the same.
And that Hammerite background image in the manual I haven't seen elsewhere, either.
I added Duhnkeros to the Master Names List. :)

We also have Volkeros, if you think those names invented by Idon'tknowwho are really canon. :p They also welcome you as the new master thief on page one as if every acolyte turned their back on them.
The interesting thing is that babelfish translates the German "Hüter" with guardians (as they're also called in Italy) although the meaning of Hüter implies rather a spiritual way of guarding things. So it's quite well translated from "keepers".
Oh, and since you're all collecting things like these:

What might the English equivalent be for "-keros", if there is one? Duhn
keros and Vol
keros. Is there more about Volkeros than the name? As long as they don't contradict anything, this stuff is most welcome.
Heh heh. The Master Names List includes non-canon, but only if the name was released in connection with Thief by LGS people or EIDOS. I place a note in parentheses following the entrants, especially if it's rare or hard to look up. The ETU is tapping into the Names List as one of our source compilations, so it's not critical, but I want it to be as thorough as possible. I love just looking at how long the list is.:D
That picture looks like a Garrett figurine for placing on a mantle. I notice it's labeled "Statue---". Actually it looks like inspirational conceptual art to sell the idea, or for the LGS team to get a feel for him. And there's this echo of that early Garrett:

It is named Statue04 because all the other pictures with this 3D model of Garrett (quite the same as in the cutscenes if you look at his boots for instance) have also the name Statue. xxcoy has this one without the background on her (
http://www.darktales.gamers.de/00000095a9128f216/00000095aa13f7001/index.php) artwork page and there it looks like a statue.
Volker is a common German name, Duhn* seems to be fantasy, but both with a pseudo-greek ending to make it sound sophisticated. That's what I think it is. In the TMA guide there is also a certain Behrensius.
Aha, great discovery: The imprint of the TDP guide mentions thanks to:
Quote:
[...] Eidos Interactive (Deutschland = Germany) GmbH
Rolf Duhnke, Volker Rieck [...]
Behrens is a German surname.

That's the second time I've seen Garrett with a grappling hook. Great! Oh, Jason posted the other picture already. Should have known...
Re: figurine, statue, action doll - the motive is from the third floor of Constantine's mansion, IMO. Can't really imagine that it resembles a base for a sculpture, even if the angle on (
http://www.darktales.gamers.de/images/garretportre4t1.jpg) the image from xxcoy's site looks to be different, I suspect that it's been tampered with. Where is it from, exactly? TMA or TDS or TDP...?
Re: names derived from real persons: Not really a problem in my book, cf. the lists of LGS people in the Guild .str files. It somehow lends authenticity that they are Eidos employees. BTW, MB credits one Lars Wittkuhn as the German localization manager. Is he the writer of the guide, perchance?

Ah! Thanks! So it's Duhnke-ros and Volker-os. That makes it just like the English version of Thiefy names where they took a regular name and added a "-us" or "-ius" suffix.
Is Behrensius a name of a character unique to the German version, or is it another name for a character like Gervaisius, for instance?
Beleg Cúthalion on 21/2/2008 at 12:04
Behrensius seems to me a strategy guide keeper like Volkeros; I guess the only differences is that I don't know who the real person is. Mr Duhnke is at the moment director of Eidos Germany, Lars Wittkuhn is co-author of the TMA guide. All clarity abolished? :D
The Magpie on 21/2/2008 at 12:57
Actually, it's NOT the same image. I just checked. The skyline over the roof of the building where the lamp burns in Garrett's window resembles more the version to the right. And the boiler has been moved again. It's most likely a pre-animation concept painting.
My, my, these books certainly prove spectacular. :D

The early Garrett "statue" (implying a 3D representation) seems to have Eric Brosius's face, from the chin cleft up.:cheeky:

You're right, it is pretty similar..:weird:
It looks to me like it's along the same lines as some of the initial Thief wallpapers featuring a 3D Garrett. Perhaps even the same model, I'm not sure.
