Just to set things straight, I'm not for this Thief 4: The Future dealy.
Like I stated in my previous post, more than a future Thief world this Thief 4 we're talking about looks like a Thief world that's closer to our world. That's really what bothered me about it. If we were going to see more progression like the Mechanists (I liked the mechanist progression because it wasn't like our world, but it still felt like progression), then I would give it a welcome hug, but seeing Garrett in "Our World" clothes and carrying a gun just feels wrong for me. It's not a Garrett in the future, it's a Garrett in our world. Like New Horizon said, if they were basing it on the concept art, it's pretty clear that they meant for it to be set in our world.
Just to set things even more straight, I'm not saying that T-Smith is wrong either. A Thief 4 set in the Thief world's future doesn't have to suck; it could even be good. But I'm just not for this Thief 4 set in our world business.

I wasn't either, until I saw that modernized Garrett concept art. The hood, the baggy trousers - it's the hip hop gansta Garrett! Grand Master G knows his fashions, and he's equally ready to amaze you with his rhymes and cap yo ass with his silenced piece. Or whatever. Only some bling-bling and iPod + accessories are missing from the picture.
Oh yes, this would have been a comedy goldmine.

Wow, Ive been lurking these boards for ages, and have once registered to figure out a problem I had with my Thief II copy, but this is just badass, a Thief 4 was in the plans?! Wow, MysteryDev, you have convinced me to start activley posting, wow... thanks for the OST and the art!

Yeah A Fourth Thief would be awsome, and the Concept art looks great. I was lurking around Best buy the other day and seen Thief: DS on the shelves, $9.91 Canadian, Omfg, I almost died. I think that there should be a Thief 4.

It occurs to me, in MysteryDev's rants about gettin' no respect, that there is the potential for something amazing to happen. Games are a whole new media, a new way of communicating an idea between a visionary and an audience, and gaming is very literally (in the massive greatly depicting sense that we see it now) in it's infancy. But looking back from the future people will see ages of other games and companies that were oh so famous "back in the day" crumble to dust, while a few classic titles stuggle on with determined players using hard to aquire outdated equipment. But it will be seen for the art it strived to be. The Origin->LGS->ISA legacy will be like Van Gogh, tremendously underappreciated in it's time, yet seen for the strength, uniqueness and originallity imbued into each of it's works. With all the bitterness toward uncaring publishers now, these guys will be revered like Kurosawa in the future.
Or maybe that's just way too wishful dreaming, but hell it's not like it hasn't happened before.

If you go to (
www.ign.com) and search for a game called Assassin's Creed, coming out in 2007 I believe, you may think you are looking at a Thief 4. When I watched the official trailer, I was really excited, for it does look like a Thief game, albiet in an even older timeframe. I haughtily suggest watching the trailer, for I think it will be one of the hottest 2007 games.

I haven't posted for a long time on these forums, but I feel a revival. Thank you very much for what you have done. This is a wonderful present!
As for the idea for Thief 4, I don't really believe it's my place to criticize a concept that won't be made; however, I feel the same as New Horizon. Thieves in a modern context are not percieved the same way. I don't want to become a real thief, but in a medieval context, it is a fantasy. It was the setting of thief that was so engrossing; the factions and the brooding atmosphere were just something special. Abandon the setting, and it would be abandoning what gave thief it's charm and enchantment.
