There's (
http://www.thief-thecircle.com/media/music/) this ... the page that started the whole discussion. Not nearly as much official-wise as TDS, but some of the fanmixes are pretty good.
And some of the T1/2 ambients are longer, you just have to know which ones (though maybe not as long as these ... most around 4 minutes).

I actually wanted a mix of the music that plays during the pause/read screen. Is that an independent wave file?

I'm pretty sure the lighthouse tracks have 'LP' crackle built in.
Nay, that's not it... it was because the tracks have so high dynamics on low frequences that it made my low-cost headphones at work crackling. Or it's that weak AC97 soundchip.
They sound superior on my home computer.

The Clocktower theme is the best, and I know you agree.
Nay...Shalebridge Cradle! I let my collegue listen to it and after a minute she told me to turn it off, because it was "too sick". Hahaha, weakling. I'm finished with her.
If she had to PLAY that mission with that music, that would push her to suicide.
Other tracks are catchy as well, hard to pick up the best. I like the cue at the beginning of South Quarter track (it loops in some homes in SQ). It's so mysterious. If not anything else, then Brosius' characteristic music style made it clear :
This IS Thief.
OT Question: I'm confused about one thing: When TDS was in production, news were saying that Alex Brandon will make score for it, with little advice from Brosius. But in the end Brosius himself made the complete score. Anybody knows why? Did Brandon feel inadequate for the type of music and gave up?

Some Thief and Thief 2 originals would be nice - mainly because the audio was so heavily compressed in the videos, plus many of the ambients were kept in mono for some reason. Apart from the familiar bass loop that appears when approaching Ramirez' cellar there isn't much in the way of stereo ambient music in Thief 1.

Clearly, it wouldn't have been the same without Eric's unique style.

Yeah. Actually, it reminds me of Diablo music, the Catacombs section (5-8 levels). While ingame, it creates some astonishing atmosphere.
South Quarter is great, but I like Old Quarter theme more. And I'm surprised why nobody mentioned the Blue Heron Inn ambient - to me, it rocks.

We can start making personal charts, no? ;)

Going by memory--subject to confabulation--I believe Eric was the composer, but he had to leave for another project for a time, leaving Alex to work on it. Near the end, Eric came back to finish. I seem to remember Alex assuring the fans that he wouldn't deviate from Eric's work and that, in particular, he was doing something with reversed Gregorian chanting to unnerve us. Something like that, anyway.

Err... some tracks have significant crackling, is it normal?

I loaded the tracks up into Adobe Audition, one at a time, and the program shows some tracks have occasional clipping. This may have something to do with the program, not necessarily the data. Also, my boombox at work has trouble with the lower frequencies.
I still need to hear it on a good system.

Best part of the mission is its music :P

Yay! Something to listen to on my next 3 am - 9 am stretch at the studio. :)
