Oh Crap! moments in gaming. - by Brad Schoonmaker

Now, I'm talking about times where no matter how well you think you know the game, you still get taken by surprise.
Last night, I was playing Battlezone 2. I wanted to try out the 'instant action' maps for a change. I chose the one on Mire with an island in the middle connecting with the rest of the map by bridges.
Anyway, I was playing along with all cheats on just to see how massive an assault force and base I could muster up. 'Til then I thought the A.I. was a bit dim so I was cocky. When I was ready, I took a little ride over to the enemy base. I could not believe what I saw. There were about 20 healer bots and at least 30 Maulers as well as various other attackers pelting me from all sides. I could only laugh at how the damn game kept pace with me. As I left there trying to lead some of them into a trap through the waterway, I saw that *many* of them took off for my base. The rocket tanks on the cliffs took out the ones following me, but I knew I'd been out snookered.
Calling 20 tanks and 10 APC in for an assault was a waste of time. I'm good at defense, but...
What's your story?

Reinforcements in Medieval: Total War are a nasty surprise. Especially when they appear from the damn trees. Imagine this, your troops are exhausted from chasing down routing units and in order to get a firm grip onto the battle, you ought to mobilize your troops for a fresh wave of reinforcements, making them even more tired. Send out some troops to deal with the remaining enemy troops and while you're battling it out, two or three fresh units jab you by the side.

I remember seeing the boss of Serious Sam for the first time. That REALLY made me go, "Oh crap!"

When you forget that item all the way at the beginning of the level. Theres an Oh Crap! Moment.

Quicksaving when you're dead. :(

Quicksaving after killing every enemy on the Haunted Cathedral level, going up some stairs and then getting gibbed while stuck going up the stairs. I quick saved 1.3 seconds before Garrett died.

That's the exact reason why I never finished System Shock 2.

Too bad that wasn't really thought out... I just did the samething in Alice now I gotta do the entire Pale Realm level all over again, cause I caught my quicksave button instead of quickload when I fell down a hole.

Getting beaten up by a Trigen again.

Trigens. *spit*. Filthy buggers. Especially annoying in the temple. Even those rocket launcher beasts are easy as piss to eliminate.
