Oh Crap! moments in gaming. - by Brad Schoonmaker

One of the 'Oh crap' moments I remember:
When I played Witchaven from levels 13 up to level 28 without saving, and then suddenly stood in front of a spike pit too wide to jump across... without a single levitation scroll left, and no enemy left alive and unplundered on my side of the pit.
Luckily I managed to improvise a bridge by shooting arrows into the side wall.

Baldur's Gate II, wandering into the lower level of that shadow dungeon for the first time. They didn't really put a dragon in the game, did they? A full-sized dragon?
Classic.

Hmmm....
Silent hill 2
When PH is chasing you and Maria through the hallways
When it's dark after the Hospital, and you think; what a strange tree in the middle of the road......
When you see PH's vertical attack right above your head.
When one of the hanging bed bodies grabs you
Silent hill 3
When I realize that the nurses have GUNS
When the red light chases you
The room with the mirror
The the bloody fuzzy world
Silent hill 4 - Spoilers if you haven't played it
Whenever the screen turns red or a wall turns black
When a ghost grabs your heart and you can't move
When the long haired ghost comes through walls
When you enter an area, then 2 seconds later hear the door open again behind you
When you hear Walther's laughter
When you have a posessed peephole and look through it
When the ghost comes out of the wall in your bedroom
When you enter your bathroom and the bath is bloody
When RB's ghost teleports behind you
When Eileen says @$)^#@&6#*^ (literally)
When you see the 6 huge wall monsters
The room in the hospital that almost falls on you
The room in the hospital with the huge face
A loud wheezing or singing
When a dog lunges (they go very far)
When you just see a single body part hanging somewhere
When you see the dancing baby (Trust me, it's creepy)
Ok, enough of that, there certainly seemed to be a lot in SH4...

The underground dragon nests in Ultima Black Gate: sleeping big ones AND pups.
No shortage; lotsa running, screaming and turning off the deck. Ow.
Went south.
Toadally.

TIE Fighter:
The mission where you have to clear a mine field with an unshielded TIE. After you get half of them, that admiral decides to pull a fast one an order your wingmen and everyone else to kill you!
Thinking back on that mission, I now realize that TIE Fighter really did an excellent job of making the Empire sympathetic. The Rebels were dicks in that game. Fucking traitor admiral thinking he's so hot with his star destroyer full of traitors. YEAH, I AM A HOT SHIT FIGHTER PILOT, BITCH, WATCH AS I KILL ALL YOUR FUCKING PILOTS.

Heh. Don't let your anger blind you, let it consume you.
They did do a good job at that. I sure did enjoy taking potshots at Zaarin's flagship with heavy rockets. And I did get a warm fuzzy feeling during a particular cutscene which starts with DV saying "Greetings, Admiral Harkov, we have a matter to discuss."
Very well done, especially compare to Dark Side in KotOR, which made you feel like a small time thug with a lightsaber.

I've only played SH1 once, the other's I have played 5-6 time for 2 and 3 and twice for 4. Four was the most recent, so I remember the most...

Silent Hill is getting closer to being super freaky... 1-3 were morbid but they didn't give me 'fear' like in SS2 or some Thief levels... but in SH4... the bedroom first person REALLY changes the game.
IF they make SH in first person, hell, if ALL the Silent Hill's were first person I probably would have a different opinion. the POV makes a HUGE difference.
BTW, wanted to add some kudos to the "oh crap!" when the female ninjas pop in in NOLF 2's tornado level. GREAT LEVEL AND SPOOKY TOO! IN A WEIRD WAY!
etc

Sweet crunchy sound... *snif*
Aren't we forgetting the mission where some bastard pulls an Ozzel and the entire strike group hypers out into the middle of a fucking mine field?
Or was that a different game? :erm:
