Kav should be able to counter bs story. She's demanding basically he doesn't speak after her
In this situation, all he needs to do is tell his side of the story. The committee will be the one drilling her on his behalf.
And anyway, the list above isn't something set in stone. The senate can tell her lawyer to suck a few dozen eggs, and they'll do it the way they want to do it. Fords lawyer can argue the schedule and procedure all she wants, at the end of the day, they have the final say in how it all goes down.
How they approach it depends on how quickly they want to be done with it.

So, why not call the witnesses? Especially as they counter her story? Why is Grassley and co so dead set on demanding that it's just Ford vs Kavanaugh?
jkcerda on 23/9/2018 at 05:25
TWO witnesses have already said they don't know what she's talking about. What more do you expect out of them? Do you get SHE doesn't want Kav to be able to refute her story?
Renzatic on 23/9/2018 at 05:36
If she's going to be refuted, it'll be sussed out when she's under the spotlight in front of the committee. They will go through everything she says with a fine toothed comb.
This whole idea that Kavanaugh won't be able to defend himself? That all he has left to him is to wither under her statements without recourse? It's stupid. He has his defense. It's everyone partial to him in congress. That's about 51 people.
If he's gonna lose his seat in SCOTUS, she's gonna have to tell one helluva story. Like I said, the onus of proof is ON HER. It doesn't matter who goes first or last. If she doesn't have a convincing case, if it doesn't withstand the barrage of questions that WILL be asked her, we've got a new justice.

It's easily assumed by the demanded speaking order.
Honestly, we all need to realize that it doesn't matter who speaks first or last. Everything could be stacked in Ford's favor, and she'd still have the odds against her. The incident in question was a party held nearly 35 years ago that she doesn't remember all the details to, and 4 witnesses have now refuted her version of events. It's not looking good for her. I don't think she's lying, people don't go all out like this without having good reason to do so, but she doesn't have a leg to stand on. It's all "it really happened, it really did", and that probably won't be enough.
The only way Kavanaugh loses his seat is if someone fucks something up so bad, says or does something so incredibly stupid, that being merely associated with the hearing is enough to harm Kavanaugh's reputation as a trustworthy addition to SCOTUS.

So let them testify?

Um... it's already pretty clear he's not trustworthy. He has been shown to lie to the Congress and there are important gaps in his record that were kept secret. It's just that the Republicans don't care.

There would be no delaying tactic if the process were handled normally, without rushing it through. Just as a matter of principle, she deserves a fair hearing. Instead she's being pressured to testify as soon as possible, with Grassley's staff doing all the investigating and without having any witnesses that could corroborate (or dispute) her story.
And then you have the slew of attacks on her person and people who are convinced they know her true motives. Like for example that her lawyers made certain requests (or demands, if you want a scarier word) on the hearing, which is portrayed as reflecting bad on her character. Like she's a bad person because her lawyers are looking out for her.
As for the incident, you don't know how devastated she was or wasn't about the incident. Apparently, she was devastated enough to have problems dating afterward and to seek therapy years later. And Supreme Court justices are held to higher standards, drunken stupidity or not. There have been candidates disqualified for things like smoking pot once.

Abysmal, I think your post #9184 is disturbing, and I'm not American so SCOTUS....IDGAS. I can tell you honestly, honestly, when I watched Shields and Brooks on PBS, when this allegation was anonymous, I was GLAD they said it shouldn't pull any wait.
Now I think it should. Now it's a real person with a real story. Again and again, a polygraph says whether he's telling the truth or not.
And jk doesn't mention that the friend who says she doesn't remember or know about her story also effin' said she still believes her.
And Merrick Garland is right of center and they wouldn't even talk to him. Would have been another conservative on SCOTUS for life. Kavanaugh, they have already stated he is in, before hearing one word this woman has to say. McConnell says they already have the votes, and they are going to plow through.
And the boys will be boys BS....please read this article:
